I saw a few months back that there was an EF article touting them for weightloss. Back then I had just been on one for only a month or so. Anyway......stay the fuck away from those drugs. I didn't gain weight on them but the majority of people who react badly, one of their complaints is weight gain. If you managed to lose anything on these drugs it would only be a couple pounds and that is NOT worth the potential sides. These drugs strip you of zinc and magnesium so bid your immune system fairwell. I've seen complaints of people who are basically crippled by the joint issues with this stuff. Me personally I can vouch for the breathing problems, the psychological effects, and the weird shit your heart does on this shit. I was on such a ridiculously small dose that my doctors didn't understand how I could be affected at all, either positive or negative from the consumption of this drug. I guess if your blood pressure is so sky high that you need something, well...so be it. But try beta blockers first. I was prescribed this drug due to an unknown heart dysfunction, not high blood pressure......I always had real low blood pressure my whole life. So I couldn't tolerate beta blockers well because they dropped my bph too much. So lisinopril was then prescribed to me. I can't say enough what a bad taste I have in my mouth from this drug......and it leaves you with a nasty dependance too. This shit is garbage unless someone is almost completely gone from congestive heart failure.....do not touch this shit for any other reason. There have been people who didn't see side effects for years and then wham, all of a sudden they are completely crippled from one or the other.

Sounds like you had a lot of different sides from ACEI... which is definitely not the norm... millions of patients are on ACEI in general for more than just BP control... for renal protection and progression of nephropathy and proteinuria in diabetics... ACEI definitely help with the remodelling of your heart in the left ventricle and the reversal of hypertrophy or control of further progression of cardiomyopathy... etc. One of the most common sides is actually a cough which then usually they are switched to ARBs. Arthralgias that you're commenting on are seen in <1% of patients on ACEI actually.. and I've never heard of dysgeusia being a serious problem. Your potassium can become elevated due to the nature of how ACEI works, but there really shouldn't be a significant effect on Mg or Zn unless you have preexisting kidney dysfunction. I'd make sure you weren't attributing some of the sides to any other meds you could be on. More patients actually have a nasty time with betablockers than ACEI due to the fatigue, impotence, etc. Just my $0.02.

It's true that I tolerated beta blockers even less.......but the ACEI was the only med I was on. They wanted me on both at the same time and I told them they were trippin. The drug forum that I went to has an amazing number of people who have similiar stories. Look, like I said...with hardcore cardiac cases ACEI's probably have merit. But suggesting ACEI use for general weight loss is insane. These are hardcore drugs meant for bottom line cardiac and diabetic patients. The suggestion of casual use for anything other is bordering on insanity imho.

i tried lisinopril a few times and it made me feel lethargic so i ceased use

Uh huh.... right... since it's marketed in over hundreds of trials (ELITE, ELITE II, CHARM, SOLVD, CONCENSUS trials) with tens of thousands of cardiac patients demonstrating proven benefit as a cardioprotective medication.

NEJM -- ACE Inhibitors in Cardiovascular Disease -- Unbeatable?

I don't know what to say.......I'm not the only one who's had false heart attack symptoms on this stuff. Trust me, it ain't just a little chest pain......when your arms tingle and the blood rushes out of your head/face, it ain't no laughin matter. I was "stunned" when I read similiar testimonials from other people on this stuff. I understand that drugs hit everyone different. But the ridiculous diversity of side effects reported from people on ACEI's is unbeleivable. And the symptoms cease on cessation of use. But again, this drug is serious business and shouldn't even be considered for any kind of use outside of terminal cardiac patients. Even people with high blood pressure shouldn't touch this stuff. When someone say's I'd rather go back to high blood pressure and take my chances than EVER go back on this drug....that say's something. That shit fucks with your sanity......I know.

I think what you are describing is hyperventilation from a panic attack. Seriously, "false heart attack symptoms" and arm tingling usually goes hand in hand with hyperventilation syndrome.

I thought so too.....which is why I started taking xanax.....everything got worse. I have no doubt that this illness of mine has brought on anxiety.....but since I dumped the lisinopril I feel "ALOT" better, my heart doesn't feel as jumpy anymore. Alot of people who've never had anxiety issues and took this medication for high blood pressure, alot of them all of a sudden develop serious psychological side effects. I'm not saying I'm 100% anxiety free, but the difference in how I feel during the day is pretty stark.

"A lot" makes it sound like over half develop psychological side effects from taking lisinopril. "Some" develop panic attacks, but no more than the number of people who have psychological reactions to paracetamol (acetaminophen), ibuprofen, or other drugs that are commonly used.

On another note, one anti-hypertensive that has been associated with a significant number of psychological side effects is metoprolol. About 10% of people on metoprolol will develop clinical depression from it. Metoprolol crosses the blood-brain barrier (one of few beta blockers that does so), and will often make people feel sluggish and has caused depression.

I lasted one day on metro......seriously. One "half pill" and I felt like I was coming out of my skin for the rest of the day. It's hard to describe what I felt accept for......"I'm done with this shit". Not sure if it was that it dropped by BP too much or what.....but I had enough of that shit after one day.

What is worrying about lisinopril is how many people can take it for long periods of time before seeing the sides. And by then you've got a major buildup in your system. Also, is lis. now being linked with seizures or strokes?
