Accutane....

Those of you that have taken Accutane, would you mind explaining the advantages and disadvantages you experienced while taking it. I've heard horrible stories in the past about it, but all with a happy ending of course... no more nasty ass zits. Also dosages and length of time to take it would be awesome. Thanks!

i ran about 40mg/day for 3 months, then 2 months at 30mg/day... at 40 i couldnt deal with the chapped lips anymore, they would crack open and bleed.
i would do 20 one day, then 40 the next day and alternate like that.
i believe accutane is a godsend !!

Good stuff if you have heavy acne, watch your lipids monthly though, that is mandatory, it's very rough on the liver.

I'm on 80mg ED prescribed my doctor but I'm doing 40mg EOD because of the chapped lips. I can only open my mouth a certain amount or else I'll reopen the cracks on the sides of my lips and it will start to bleed.

ran 40mg/day for one month, 80mg/day for 5 months in arizona. Use carmex religiously and you should be good to go.

Side effects are way overstated, I never got anything emotional etc. I was on gear at the same time, cleared me up so well. Dryness is what you have to look out for and its mainly in the lips.

I'm getting acne again though, test prop always fucks me up. Its not nearly as bad though as before the accutane. I'll probably go through another round.

Lipids - when they first tested me I was coming off cycle it was like 17/140. They were concerned about the HDL's being so low. Within a month I was 48/140 while on the accutane and eating 6 whole eggs a day. high fiber diet, flax oil, niacin all helped me out a lot.

bump for more info. I was just gonna start the same thread.

any other sides we should know about? i've heard something about sensitivity to light and sun.

i have access to it w/o a script and was thinking about running a low dose for a couple of months. like 20mg/day for 3 months. i never had acne untill i did test for the first time. now you can play connect the dots on my lower back and my shoulders ( small dots but they are still there).

B5 helped a little bit for me so far. but only like 50%

I used it in Arizona and I was fine. They say your skin gets more sensitive to sun but moderate exposure is fine. You certainly wouldnt want to go tanning or anything like that.

i knew you would pipe in soon krishna !!
as for the guy that stated carmex... that is a big no no... carmex made it worse.. the best stuff out there (it's expensive though) is neosporin lip remedy comes in a tube, but it's magical for this..
the sun sensitivity is there, but not an extremem factor. note: do not get tatooed while you are on it, your skin is more sensitive and it will hurt very bad !!
also, try not to get cuts or scrapes, because even small ones will scar while you are using accutane

not true man, you ever been to Arizona? Especially in the winter time. Carmex worked like a charm, you just have to apply it a lot.

yo krish...what was your experience like? we're looking to hear both ends bro. do share.

Look, the stuff WILL get rid of your acne while you're on it. Supposedly, some people only have to do it once and there acne is gone for good (I've never personally witnessed any of these cases). I took it 3 times under a doctor's care. Towards the end of the second cycle, I started noticing changes in vision and mood. After the third cycle, I went to an eye doctor who confirmed that I have degenerative damage in my right eye which he attributes to the accutane. I manage to do alright in the mood department because I take St John's Wort daily. I have found ways to get rid of my acne that are safer and more natural. I've actually improved my acne permamently IMO, which is something accutane never did. It always came back after I was off, and I felt shittier and shittier each time I took it. If you're only taking it once, I'd say go ahead, but I also recommend taking healthier approaches concurrently while on the accutane to try to get a more permanent solution.

interesting, its not as bad this time, but its certainly there on my back.

In fact I have a pimple in my ear right now and its the most painful thing ever.

Maybe I'll hold off on the second run with accutane and try tanning to see what it does.

I forgot to mention that roche is getting sued because of accutane. I'm actually apart of a class action lawsuit. I probably won't get shit out of it, but you never know. If I end up going blind in my right eye, I'll sue them myself.

wow...1st off...thanks for the info krish.

2nd...sorry to hear about the shit this drug has put you through. hope it all turns out OK bro. the eye is nothing to fuck with. i almost lost mine when i was 13. best of luck bro!

I don't get acne on my face, but do break out on my back. What works for me is having my gf dab full-strength DMSO on every zit. It'll itch a bit and make your breath smell funny but the pimples are usually gone within 2 days. The bro with the zit in his ear would do well to try it. Whatever you do, DO NOT PUT IT ON YOUR FACE...trust me :p Not saying that it'll work for you, but that's how things went down for me. Luck to all.

80mg/day for 5 months after getting nasty back-acne from a test-dbol cycle. The chapped lips can be remedied easily with Vaseline -- just be prepared to use a lot of it. Slight dryness of the eyes, but other than that, no sides. The acne cleared up completely within 3 months.

i used accutane 6 times in my life.

i'm 34 now, still have some zits here and there, but nothing compared to the sausage-pepperoni pizza-face I used to be.

Issues - dry skin and dry lips - you have no idea. Everyone just takes this for granted. YOU WILL BE FUCKED. Get a whole lot of moisurizer (yeah, i know, oily skin, right? WRONG. accutane fucking nukes your oil glands) and a whole lot of lip balm. If you walk anywhere without the lip balm, you're screwed. If you live in a dry climate, your feet and hands will be jacked.

I had a bit of issues with depression and mood while I was on. Horrible on energy, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE joint pain (never used steroids) while on. Might want to consider doing some higher-repetition training.

My eyes are horribly sensitive to light ever since I used accutane as well.

I liked that it got rid of my horrible cystic acne (granted, took 6 uses), but I still have zit problems at age 34, as well as fucked up joints.

tread lightly. for some people, it is a magic bullet. for others, it's just a bullet.

Excellent post. I was also on accutane 3 times under a doctor's close supervision. It ruined my life for a long time. I had really bad acne before taking it and I swear it made it worst in many ways. I would like to know what my acne would have been like if I never would have taken accutane. I've been on every antibiotic under the sun and am still on the one and only medication that ever really worked for my skin. I would highly recomend looking into it. Most people know nothing about it and few doctors perscribe it. It is called BACTRIM also known as SEPTRA. You should definitely try this out before getting on the accutane train. Good luck my friend.

I read up on Bactrim but was unable to find much about taking it to clear the skin, it says it rids the body of bacteria, which i guess would help out wth acne....but you say that its the only thing you have tried that has worked? What sides did you experience with it?

I took Accutane for 5 months. Started at 40mg/Day for the first 2 and bumped it up to 60 for the last 3. The shit worked! My acne is gone! I still get a few zits here and there now but nothing of what it used to be. Now for the sides, I did get severe chapped lips but used Carmex and it worked wonders for me! The dry skin I did notice to a certain degree but it actually was not that bad, a little Cetaphil here and there and I was good as new. Now for the thing that bothered me the most and still has yet to go back to normal, the shit made my hair thin out like nothing else!! I have taken, Test, Tren, Drol, D-Bol ect... and never had issues but this did it. To this day it is still not back to normal and I have been using Nizoral, Propecia and Nioxin. Higher doses of Vitamine A have been proven to cause hair loss and my understanding is, Acctuane is pretty much a synthetic version of Vitamine A. I have been off it for 4-5 months and hope it will correct itself eventually as I do not think I'm MPB prone. I also could not sit in the sun to long as I did burn a little easier but nothing I could not handle with some strong sunblock.

It changes your DNA. I have a friend that goes to Westpoint, a lot of cadets were not allowed to attend if they were on Accutane. It's some serious shit.

i dont know about all that bro...yeah it can cause birth defects and make you crazy (so they say) but you're not gonna wake up with extra arms or anything.

chapped lips were hard to deal with, just tan.

Just started 20mg a day today..we'll see if I see results at that dose and if not I'll bump it up to 40. Ive been off for 5 months and I still have bad acne on my chest. I'll post results when Im done.

I did it two times. First time with some success and second with great success (never had horrible acne, just recurring). Never felt ANY mood changes or ill side effects other than:

dry nostrils
very dry and chapped lips
dry skin (face, neck and arms)
and slightly increased acne in the beginning of the cycle

That's my personal experience. Never even the slightest bit of mood changes.

oh yeah i forgot about the dry nostrils... always pulling scabs and dried skin out of my nose... haha .. wow i cant believe i forgot about that...

I've been on accutane 3 times within a 3 year span and this 1st time i took it the side effects were the dry lips, dry nose, and dry eyes. After everytime i took it the sides werent as bad. Carmex is the only thing that would work for dry lips. Drinking a lot of water helps with all the side effects. Other than that nothing else bad came from it. Dr. would call every now and then after blood tests and said the triglycerides were a little high, but nothing in the danger level.

No sides. Have felt better on it than any antibiotic I've ever been on.

it might affect connective tissue as well. i've had an insane # of soft tissue injuries after using accutane so many times.

not saying outright that it is responsible, but it is one of those things that make you go 'hmmmmm'
