Accuracy of portable cholesterol testing kits?

I know they're designed to only give total cholesterol and don't determine HDL/LDL but is the number accurate? I had one today and the instrument simply read "Low" when they inserted my blood sample. The person giving the test said this happens if your total cholesterol is lower than 150. I was really surprised by this as I completed a cycle just 2 months ago. I was expecting something around 220-250.

I'd like to know this, too. I had mine done last week with a portable kit and mine was at 150. Last year I had my full bloodwork done and it was around 190 but I have been taking policosonol for a few months before this last reading so maybe it did lower it.

I think they're fairly accurate. Mine were close to the readings at the Drs.

I did get a reading lower than I should have one time though, becuase I didn't get enough blood in the test area...
