Accounting I

I'm taking this class now and let me tell you that it is no fun at all.
I'm so lost in this class, this weekend I read the study guide abit and got some idea of what to do with General Journals,Ledgers, trial balances, T account, Adjusted Trial balances.

But all in all I feel the pain for accounting majors. I'm a Finance Major and its tough but accounting would be painful.

I am taking Principles of Accounting 1 right now and I'm studing more than usual, but I am also an Accounting major. If you are lost so far and don't start catching up it is going to get worse. You have to know the basics in order to move into the deeper concepts.

It is actually not a hard course, it just requires alot of practice, I'm talking about alot, that is the class that takes up most of my time. So far I have gotten two A's and one B on the quizes but I also have spend up to 12 hours daily studying it. Journals, Ledgers, T Accounts, Adjusted Trial Balances are all pretty much common sense, like I said it just requires alot of practice. And their is also double awnsers, like a question can have two difference awsers depending on how you look at it. I am getting A's in all of my other 4 classes and if I don't get and A in Accounting I am going to be so pissed. I have to atleast think this class is easy if not getting my MBA in Grad shool is going to be a real bitch.

everyone is saying the same thing. I gotta start reading the chapters and practicing like you said. I'm taking the same class as you. Common sense like you said but it can confuse you very simple. Knowing what goes were and remembering that assets are +debits-credits and liabs are -dr+cr and all is tough so far.

I had less trouble with accounting II than I. Once you learn the basics its easy as long as you fully understand and pay attention.

I'm taking Accounting 1 as well. You have to get journal entry down quick, it only gets more complicated. I fucking hate this class. First week we are already expected to know how to prepare Balance sheets, Income statement, and Owner's Equity statements on a blank sheet of paper. Oh well, fuck I guess I have some studying to do. Practicing the homework problems has helped me out a lot. The class itself is worthless, it's like a do it yourself learning class.

Bro you must be sitting in the same class as I am. I teach myself this stuff also. The lectures don't inform any of the information to me at all. Its definatly a Do it yourself class forme also.

Yeah, it is pretty much a self taught course because you have to do everything in practice and write everything out rather than learning it from lecture. My class is half internet class half regular class, I didn't know it at the time I registered, so we only meet every other week for 4 hours on Monday, but everything I have learned is pretty much self taught. Once you get the basics down then everything extends from there. Everyone keeps telling me this class is suppose to be really hard and that Accounting 2 is easier, I hope so. Good luck.

yeah i took accounting 1 at university of california and went to class for the two midterms and the final and got an A (never a single lecture)

i just did all the homework and beat that shit into my brain with endless repetition...

I have an accounting degree. Brother, it is the most boring topic in the world...counting beans to make the rich richer. I did a commerce degree, finance major, then returned to university for 1.5 years and got another commerce degree, accounting specialization.
I would consider doing a minor in accounting if you are sticking with the finance route. The information is relevant. Accounting is not about brains...it is simply study, memorization, practice practice, and once you know the mechanics of it it is not difficult. I hate it with a passion, though, and wouldn't want to work in the accounting field at all. Don't think that reading the study guide is enough- even if the 'theory' in it seems very simple- do lots of exercises, get an accounting workbook with solutions, and you will do well in your course.

I have a degree in Accounting . Take as many courses as you can stand because you will not have a better basis upon which to judge financial statements.

If you are a finance major get used to it Brogan. They are one in the same up until your last year, and even then they are very similar. Thats not a hard class. Just keep up.

I am an Accounting major in my senior year and the only words of advice I can give is just do problems upon problems. Yeah, it sucks and takes lots of time, but it does the job. Sometimes, I ask myself why the hell I decided to major in this crap (this is generally after a hard test), but then I calm down and come to my senses. Good luck!

I hear you on the lots of problems. The more I do it the better I get out of it. I'm in the beggining of the class so I just need to get the basics down. I need to get generoul journals down cause I beleive thats what all the statements steam from.
