you can keep them but you shouldnt be focused on keeping them shredded and ripped or else you are wasting time and effort IMO

The worst is the little flex in the mirror that you did when you were shredded, only to see them not show up..........so when do you know if its too much??? As long as you can see the top two? That a good guage? Obviously in the morning and not at night when you've eated all day.........

normally when i flex i can still see some good/decent detail but they are not 'etched' so to speak..

i hate losing striations in my chest/arms/shoulders more then the abs especially in the winter..

i just judge it all like if my strength is skyrocketing i can deal with a bit more fat.. if im getting fat but the weights arent going up i know im doing something wrong..

i also normally have a very specific weight to strive for and when i have time i go about it nice and slow and put on quality lean mass..but when im 'rushed' to get into a new weight class i just eat my face off and train balls to the wall and gain much faster.. but its more fat.. but at least i get close then i just tighten everything up from there..

I never work em, just do stuff that builds my core. As long as I eat smart 70% of the time I always have a 4 pack. Years ago I'd eat fried shit and fast foods once in a while and it was a different story. That stuff can't even be on cheat days for me.

Keep em when trying to bulk or F-it and get em later....?
I live in NY..the only time anyone other then my girl sees my abs is in the summer when i can take my shirt off. I see no pint in even trying to maintain that BF, even if i wasn't training to do a show and didn't have to worry about bulking..i still would let the fat come back during the winter.

when your "bulking" your bulking, not a time to be bothered with abs. all it means is when you start "cutting" you get serious and not puss out with the cheap days a shit. you will like the way you look and be glad you did it at the end of the day, when you have more muscle than youve had before and are ripped. mo

i just keep working out my abs year round bulking or not. i may get a little fat in there but if i keep working them it never gets out of hand and embarassing.

I've got big fucking abs and I use them as a gauge for my diet when bulking. I do an ab shot first thing in the morning, when dehydrated a bit and not bloated. If my lower abs aren't visible (their the first to go) then I'm putting on too much fat, and I'll bring my diet down a bit.

I agree latley with Thanksgiving just passing I have put on a little fat, which I am going to get rid of by Jan 1st. I just dont like the way I feel with all that water and extra fat. I mean I can still see the total six pack but I dont have the cuts and depth I want, but that will be changing soon. Off to cardio!

THe abs are a muscle that should never be given "time off" cuz you cant see them. If you hit them all year long, the final product when you shed the fat will not be disappointing and all the "hard" abs work during bulk willst paid off

My only problem with the extra fat while bulking on the belly is that is stretches the skin, it makes me paranoid that it will be that much harder while cutting to gets that 6 pack out..

Now-a-days when bulking, I am not obsessed with keepping them rock hard, but I keep them around. As long as I can still see them it's all good. Yeah you have to gain SOME BF while bulking, no biggie. But at the same time, if you can't flex it, you don't really need it. What's the point in getting too fat? It's just more work to do come cutting time. You gotta find a happy medium. Lastr winter I went nuts with calories, shootin for 5000 a day. Clean food, but yep, I got fat. Lean bulking is where it's at for me now.

The way I see it, bulking is a part of bodybuilding and is just as important and more so imo than cutting. There are plenty of little guys with 6 packs and quite a few medium sized guys with 6 packs, but not that many actually muscularly big guys with 6 packs. It's all the more impressive when you have some REAL size and strength. I know plenty of guys that squat 225 for reps and Barbell bench 205 for reps and they look all cover modelish, but when you get down to it, "where's the size, where's the strength?"

I'd be willing to bet that guys that are unwilling to bulk aren't that big in the first place and won't get that big and strong unless they do. Why cut solely to have a 6 pack when you don't have that great of a developement? Every male trainer at my gym has a 6 pack, but when clothed you can't really tell they workout and the weights they use after years of training is a joke. My guess is they don't bulk either.

Just my opinion.

This thread wasnt meant to be whether or not you TRAIN ABS in the offseason, but whether you lose the visibility or try your damnest to keep them cut and dry........

Seems to me like you are shooting yourself in the foot if you are too concerned with your abs in the offseason........Ive tried it, it's hard........what it comes down to is not eating enouigh. Plenty of times I cut myself off after one serving because I'm too concerned with leaness.....its a sick sick sick sick disease......I'm slowly learning........

Whoops...I thought you meant keeping them visible..i train abs year round but all i do is need size's 5*5 once a week and sometimes twice.

NO, that is what I meant..........NOT TRAINING.........keeping them visible during bulking or letting them go? Would a good guage be keeping the top two showing?

I like having them year round... they keep me motivated. Plus, if I can see all 8 of them... then the rest of my body get vieny and shredded too. I can see myself grow. I actually grow faster when I can see the muscle fibers twitching through the whole exercize.
I will never go about 10% bf again if I can help it.
Im 6'3" 240 7.5% in the avatar.. I'm a little more lean now at 242. I would like to get to 250 and be shredded!

how the hell do you bulk up and keep all 8???????? Impossible to eat surplus cals yet keep cals..............unless you are a genetic FREAK!

I only do two ten weekers a year. I eat super clean too. So when I get on the shit I explode. With proper PCT is keep almost all of it too!
BTW... I just increase the size of each meal slightly. I continue to eat that way after too.

High protein, low carb/fat???

F-it, get them later... But don't lose them totally

I always keep my abs nice and tight year round. I am not much into the bulking scene. I don't why people bulk and cut all the time. I just stay around 195 to 200 lean. The most I go is up to 8% bodyfat. I don't like walking around the beach and clubs with a bloated belly and a moon face. Bodybuilding is all about having good shape and great deffinition year round IMO.

:p How are you ever going to put on mass without putting on some fat bro, you're not! Train abs all year round, bulking or not, regardless if you can or can't see them. Your going to have to part with your beloved abs for awhile:p
