"Ab-Tronics" finally under scrutiny

Finally, the FTC is investigating claims by the folks schlepping ab stimulators. There's a story in the LA Times about it. I'll post it if I can find it..

You'd think that at least a certain amount of wisdom comes with age. But after years of Thigh Masters, Ab Isolators, tiny trampolines, and "fat burners," America seems none the wiser.

Wanna know how many of us bought one of these little electronic miracles?? Three fucking million!! How long before people understand that health does not come in a box or bottle? Part of me blames these evil-doers for so blatantly lying to the public and for preying on the insecurities that result from the ideal body becoming more ingrained in our psyches, while the reality is that our nations collective ass simply gets fatter and fatter.

But my more analytical and, yes, somowhat cynical side says, "If we're stupid and desperate enough to believe shit like that, then more power to them."

Here's the link: Ab Gadgets....

How many times are you sitting there watching TV, enjoying lame cable shows, and from out of nowhere, like the voice of some god comes:

"The Bow,"

"Resistance becomes strength, strength becomes power"

It's like they bought up every second of cable advertising. Somewhere, on some obscure cable channel, at all hours of the day, a commercial for bowflex is running.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I dispute the claims by the FTC. I've been using the "Ass-tronic" and i'm sporting a nice six pack ass right now.

It's no secret that you bought one and have been using it to tickle your naughty bits.

even after i explained why the damn thing didn't work i had a friend who bought one... same friend who works out about 2 weeks a year.... ugh... i dunno why i even try.

You would have to be pretty dumb to buy into anything so stupid anyhow. But right now there are hundred of thousands of people sitting at home using it realizing how utterly ignorant they are:)

Anybody who bought one got exactly what they deserve. Some lessons are learned only the hard way.

There is a sucker born every minute.

Picking apart the "science" of informercials brings me much amusement. My day started off with a smile when I heard about the "abtronic" FDA adventure on the 5:30am news. The whole idea is just so silly. That's like considering the muscle stimulation I get at physical therapy a back workout. People are so lazy.

Dunno how the law in the US is , but here advertisers don´t have to tell the truth or use real scientific studies.
I wonder why people believe anything they see in a commercial break, since it is probably a lie or exagerated anyway.

if only the FDA were as fast moving as the FCC maybe some of these sup companies would get theirs.

Yeah, maybe the "fat blockers" and "exercise in a bottle" will be banned then. lol

whenever i see those tv commercials for any "fitness" or health equipment like that (which isn't often 'cause i don't watch tv much, if at all) i laugh and think how people are so stupid. they really are, people in general.
