AAP's Mega Karma Slam Trivia Thread....

First person to answer this correctly will get a karma slam. This is going to be a semi daily thing from me.... I will start with something easy (after all it is a fitness board)

Q - Identify the muscles as either Fast Twitch or Slow Twitch

Chest
Back
Shoulders
Biceps
Triceps
Quads
Hams
Traps
Calves
 
They're all fast but the last two.

Now here's one for you smart guy, which parts of my answer are correct, and which aren't?

Wiz kid, triceps...slow? I don't think so. In humans, triceps contain, on average, 55% fast twitch fibers.

My Answer, ALL of the above with the except of triceps and biceps, are made up primarily (meaning 50% of more of the volume) of slow twitch fibers in the average untrained individual. I don't have any books handy, but can site a source later if needed.
 
All muscles consist of both slow- and fast-twitch fibers. The ratio of each fiber type in a muscle is determined by the function of the muscle.

Chest-slow
Back-slow
Shoulders-slow
Bicepsfast
Triceps-fast
Quads-slow
Hams-fast
Traps-slow
Calves-slow

I'm no expert, chill. I just took those off the top of my head, but ive read where come people do have slow twitch in tris..
 
Think of it like this... this will help ya... think of it in terms of training results...

Hamstrings are packed with fast twitch fibers and need low reps in order to achieve significant size and thickness.

So... fill in the rest.

That isn't true at all.

This is the truest statement made on this thread.

Add in training methods and you see the ratios change slightly.

Correct.

Also, the idea of type change, as Wodin mentioned, is a factor, through training, to some degree. The same perception of effect can also be seen due to neural efficiency alterations, too, though, and makes biopsies necessary to determine the actual cause, when studied.

I find the rebound of MHCX in response to prolonged periods of rest to be fascinating. Unfortunately, even with my own experiments, it didn't pan out in the real world. What you gain in potential, you lose in neurallly induced strength and, by the time your nervous system has relearned the pathways enough to properly make use of that new cache of MHCX imbued fibers, you're fucked, as they've already converted into a subtype. Pffft!

You're mistaken.

The general human trend is to have more fast-twitch fibers in the hamstrings. That means heavy weight (or moderate weight with fast movement) and multiple low-rep sets are best for the majority of those who wish to maximize hamstring development.

Very few people have slow-twitch hamstrings, but some do, so what Tuc biscuit, Wodin, and myself have said still applies overall.

The general trend is what I outlined, though.

Ok... just to be P.C. list the type that the General Public has the majority of.
 
I once threw up in a public phone boothe, I murphed all over the reciever and it hit the window and ran down the side, then I tried to drive by it everyday just to laugh at the people going inside it because you could still see the residue.

kind of reminds me of the time I put a bloody booger on a 20 spot and gave it to the loser at the Micky D's drive through.

moral of the story is more people should throw up on wierd objects and videotape it, becuase its pretty funny

Ok, I think this is wrong based on my earlier post but here goes
Chest fast
Back fast
Shoulders fast (mine seem to respond very well to higher reps though, especially stripping sets, everytime I do them for a few weeks people say my delts look bigger and what to know what I'm doing for them, so using this logic mine are slow)
Biceps fast
Triceps fast
Quads slow
Hams fast
Traps slow
Calves slow
