A question for the computer geeks....

I have always owned Macs and iMacs but recently decided to visit the other side. So, I had my nephew build me a brand new computer and it uses Windows XP Professional. I've got Norton Internet Security installed also.

The question I have is....Is it common for my computer to constantly be under attack from hackers? It seems I am attacked about 5 to 10 times a day.

When I had the iMac, I never got any notices from my Norton software of being under attack.

Karma to those who answer.:)

just because youre getting a ping doesnt mean its a hacker. Do some search on google for talk about that.

About all of them say something a Sub Seven Trojan Horse. A few have been different but not many.

I used to get them all the time with Black Ice. I think it's pretty much a bogus warning or you are just being scanned from within your ISP. Probably the scan...

Just get a router with NAT and you'll be fine with a good virus protector.

Agreed about the router. Before I had a router, ZoneAlarm was recording 30-60 hits/day on a normal day, much more if there was a new worm or trojan making the rounds. A lot of the hits were from places like China, Singapore, India, Korea, Russia, I assume that those WERE hackers looking for an open port, or worms looking to replicate.

With the router, I seldom ever see suspicious hits anymore, most of the activity in my ZoneAlarm log is my ISP hitting me back.

Norton can be a bitch depending on what setting you put it on. It will warn you about everything, doesn't mean you are getting attacked.
