A guy in my office

Just complained in a staff meeting about sexual harrasment! There is one girl who works in our office with about seven of us guys. She is kind of like our work wife. All of us (except this one guy) banter back and forth with her. She starts it most of the time, so it's not like she is getting upset. That I could understand. So this guy pipes up and says in the meeting, "I've been to the sexual harrasment class and I'm getting offended, it's gone to far". We all sat there dumbfounded that he wasn't kidding. What a dick!

Which brings up a question. What would have to happen before you would be offended? What is your threshold?

My threshold is pretty high with regard to sexual banter. However, I've always worked in a legal environment, so I have yet to experience this in the work place. I guess would begin to feel uncomfortable if the person violated my personal space (i.e, coming too close, touched me, etc.).

Sexual harrasment is such a grey area. There are so many "if this ____ occurred then I would feel this way ________." It depends on the work environment too. I know someone, an engineer, that works for a company that manufactures goods. There is a drive on the company's server that is reserved for porn. All new porn (pics, mini-films, etc.) is saved on this drive and the IT department (and I assume HR) knows. I still can't believe some of the things that the men & women are allowed to say.

I have always thought, and sexual harassment falls into the general thought, its much more important HOW something is said, more than the actual words themselves.....its al about intent

Nothing offends me. I used to get emails from all the guys at work "did you hit that?" every time a hot girl would come see me. Most of the girls would start it. Its all fun and games. It was never thrown in anyones face. Its not like I had sex on my desk... well.. with anyone there.
Work sucks. You do what you have to do to make it interesting. There is always one person the ruins it for everyone!

Yepper.

For me it depends on how well I know someone but really, I don't get sexual banter from people at work. I'm one of the VERY few females and the only one under 35. I think they'd be uncomfy talking to me like that because I don't project anything at work that would invite that kinds of commentary.

i deal with it quite often at work, the women are constantly hitting on me, almost to the point where i cant post on ef, its quite annoying
being sexy: this is my gift, it is my curse

i'm sexually harassed all the time.. haven't lodged an offical complaint.. i work for a pretty big company.. my direct boss is aware of the bigger issues..

Personally.. i don't feel anything would really come of an offical complaint except make my work environment harder..

And yes some of the remarks.. have been bad (I now know my lipgloss is perfect for blowjobs - for example)

I'm not suprised that mostly women responed to this post. But, this was a guy...What would make a guy say such a thing?

CanadianCutie,
You should remind those guys that you have a lot of BIG friends.

Next time some guy tells you that... whip it out of your purse, hand it to him and say "go ahead, knock yourself out" LOL

that's just tacky... i could have been sued before i think to be honest, but there is a difference in flirting and telling a woman that her lipgloss is perfect for blowjobs. shopuld have asked him how many he had given while wearing it.

Same deal for me, none of that here, and I like it that way.

also depends on how many people you work with... remember not everyone evolves as quick as the next... a lot of guys are too busy trying to figure out things like how to tie their shoes and then the hormones take over.

I'm always hyper careful about that shit at work, they take that shit very seriously when you work for the state.

It's really bullshit though cause women are way too wishy washy when it comes to sexual harrasment.

You can joke with them for a year(them being just as bad or worse) but catch them on the wrong day and you're fucked.

yeah and how dare her say she didn'tlike it... just tell her to get her sweet ass in there and get you some coffee.

Actually I'm usually the one who gets harrassed(like I give a fuck though).

personally I can't see myself ever getting seriously offended because of sexual talk or advances at work.

your patients are like 80 years old

I wouldn't mind being sexually harassed by the chicks from sales & Marketing in my company

Just because women/woman at work allow you to say this or that, or encourage it..

doesn't mean you should.

Women are emotional. Joke about sex one day. Both laugh. Tomorrow you get into a fight over some project .. and boom, that sex conversation gets brought up to your boss as sexual harassment.

Have some class at work. Don't let your hard work be ruined by stupid bullshit like sexual harassment and other complaints. Two steps forward, Three steps back.

If some female really wants to talk about sex -- we can do it during happy hour .. outside .. work hours.

Save your sex talk with your girlfriends. If you don't have one -- there's your problem.

Lot's of flirting/innuendoes at my place. The key, I think, is before you can do this, you have to have a certain rapport with them. Therefore there are some people I can talk to like this, & some I am less personal with. The ladies I come into physical contact with, I never touch in an intimate way. Everyone knows I am delightfully married so they know the jokes etc. are not serious. To be honest, any of the ladies that could lead me astray I am most careful not to lead on.
