a few questions

I have been weightraining for 6 months now i do it in burts of 2-3 hours a day usually anywhere from 2 to 3 days a week only upper body because i have knee problems, but ive just had surgery so ill start on lower body soon as a recover. well anyways i have gained about 5 lbs in muscle in those 6 months and gotten pretty cut id say a 50% improvement saying i was relatively fit to begin with. i have no real schedule and dont really understand how to routine my work outs. i usually will do chest,bicepts,shoulders one day 2x excercises per muscle group and tricepts,back,abs 2x excercises per group two days later and high enough weight on each where i get any where from 6-8 reps on each set and usually 5 sets or until i can no longer finish the final rep of the last set. Then on the last day i will to one excercise on each muscle group same weight and reps i usually swap the type of excercise everyother week but all together i have no more than 4x excercises per muscle group. i also train on a heavy bag 10 secs on 10 secs and run for cardio alternating every other day i excercise. my goal is to gain some mass but mainly just get cut. can anybody point out any flaws in my routine or the burst at which i work out. o and btw most of my excercise are free weight or cable all out of my house no machines but if i should join a gym to get better results just let me know your opinion about that. but like i said if you see im doing somthing wrong to get the results im looking for please let me know any advice is appreciated.
