Bill,

For the record, I posted an idea for powerlifting in Monster Muscle. If you didn't like it, you could have contacted me but instead you trash talk on the forums.

You are very quick to burn your bridges. I'd be careful what you say to who. I merely stated the facts whether you like them or not. The fact that I lift in a two layer shows that I was willing to look beyond myself and look out for the sport. The only reassurance you will get about the shirts are from a few lifters. But let me tell you, they will not be able to promote a meet. So what good will it be when it's just a handful of guys talking shit - just another IPA meet.

You told me you always wanted to be the best bencher. At what point is it you and at what point is it the shirt?

You don't have to agree with me, just please have some respect to ask me if you don't understand my statement.

I did not single anyone out. In fact I helped promote you here at BenchAmerica - the poster, billboard, CBS TV - and the 1st thing you do when you don't like something I say is run off and shoot me down.

What's the threat, if you are the best, then you shouldn't be concerned.

I am done on the forums - it's for people who just want to bitch. I am taking powerlifting to the next level. I don't care if you believe in my quest - it's going to happen.

You take away ten or 15 guys that rattle at the mouth and who's going to miss them when we have 25,000 powerlifters in America.

Keep in mind, I have made many contacts in the last year and I am doing all that I can to promote this sport. Who else can you say is truly doing that? I collected no dues, didn't charge for the meet, and spent the last year with 9 other staff people spending every last minute to make this happen.

You show the potential of being great at times and then you run off with the mouth at others. You got mad at Sean, then KK, now me.

I'll let it go because I can see beyond that but as a friend I am telling you that you need to be careful and serious consideration to the direction of powerlifting in the years to come. And someday, you'll have to clean up - you can't juice forever. then what? Where will you lift?

Take care of yourself - I am off the forums.

Joe

as a concerned powerlifter, i believe joe let his way of thinking interfere with the sport. if he didn't like DD shirts, that ok. but to bash not only the lifters that use them and another organization is out of line. personally, i thought the sport was going in the right direction, but i guess not. seems like the only thing that's good is pro-powerlifting. tb

I know it wasn't the whole poing of the letter, but I don't see what the big deal is with DD shirts. Yeah, the add more than a poly, but who cares if that's what everyone you're competing against is using.

I agree, Pro Powerlifting looks good. I hope to be there one day.

More argueing about shirts, it wasn't a sanctioned meet which doesn't help the sport either way, I read most of this over there and agree with Bill on the subject.

My letter to joe mukite after recieving his e-mail

Dear Joe, I truly enjoyed the competition at bench America. I do think that in order for it to be a yearly success some changes need to be made.

I recently finished your article in Monster Muscle and I was disappointed to say the least. I do not understand how a lifter such as yourself who competes in a double ply denim shirt can turn around and condemn lifting with the use of denim shirts. I am not one to sit on the fence with this issue, as I feel it is a matter of preference, however if you are promoting an event that allows the use of this type of equipment I fail to understand how you can turn around later and belittle it's use. In short I speak with a great many members in the powerlifting community, you have pissed off many people. I would hop[e that in the future you would not allow political correctness to affect your opinion.
I would like to compete in Bench America next year, but if this is truly your attitude and you are going to go to single ply gear I doubt seriously if you will see myself or any of the other big benchers.
Why would you make the rules, follow them yourself and turn around after the competition was over and disparage what you enforced

Sincerely
Mike Miller

To Metal Melitia and IPA,

There is a post floating around from Bill Carpenter that makes some allegation about me picking on the IPA. He took my e-mail and changed it and tried posting it in forums because he is upset that we tried to restrict some rules and questioned the direction of powerlifting.

I am a promoter of the sport and do not put others down. You guys did a great job and have some great lifters - I have respect for that.

Call me with any questions 847-366-4852.

Joe

His response

I don't condemn them, our sponsors do. I will do what i can. Money talks. I apologize. joe

Okay, I'm a little lost here, and maybe it's because it's 1AM on Saturday.

I'm gathering that Joe said something bad about bench shirts, and that Bill Carpenter was none too happy about it, but I can't help but feel like I'm missing some other piece here.

Mike e-mails Joe, and gets a response that he doesn't condemn them, the sponsors do? So what, he says what the sponsors tell him to?

I'm lost...someone explain it to me like I'm 4.
