a 5x5 question

hi all im currently doing a 5x5 routine, but i have a couple of quries i hope some peeps on here can help me with.
the first one beingwhen doing standing dumbell shouldes presses,i can increase the weight considerably if i sit rather then stand,i know it isnt as benificial to core stability, but surley it will be more effective to shoulder development??

the second one is on my chest shoulder day (today) i left the gym feeling like i hadnt done much of a workout although i was lifting as heavy as i could, has anyone experianced this on the 5x5 routine?

today was incline dumbell press 5x5,standing shoulder press 5x5 and close grip bench 5x5
it just felt over very quickly, any constructive comments would be greatly appreciated :)

1. Always do standing. It's not about shoulder development. It's about gaining overall strength.

2. I never use dumbbells with my shoulder press because I need to add weight in increments nearing 2.5 lbs. Using dumbbells, you're forced to add 10 lbs each week. Unless you're pressing 400 lbs (2.5% of 400 is 10 lbs), you cannot do this. You're only supposed to increase the weight by 2.5% each week. Obviously, this cannot work. You need to use a barbell, and you need to stand.

3. Don't worry about that 'pump' feeling. The only thing you need to worry about is that you continue to add weight to the bar every week. If you are doing this, you are doing great. If not, cut back down a little and work your way back up, and eat more.

4. Once again with the dumbbells for chest. It's not a good idea unless you're lifting a lot of weight.

5. Incline Bench, Standing Press, Close Grip? Can I ask what exactly you're doing. Where's the squats? Where's the deadlifts/rows? I don't know which 5x5 routine you picked, but you should follow Madcows in the training sticky. This one makes no sense.

hi mate thanks for the reply,i do the deads squats and bent over rows,on day one,and all the lifts i mentioned in the post day 2 im doing frankies mass building 5x5 which is pretty similar to madcows iirc
cheers.

good post^. Yeah you are def missing some core lifts there. Looks like someone did some adjusting. Just stick to the program and you'll do good.

deads and squats on the same day? doesnt seem like the best option to me.
sorry that was a typo..its late here! i ment i do deads bentover rows and curls on same day, and squats sldl and ab work on third day
cheers :qt:

that sounds like a really bad 5x5 program.

are you really doing curls 5x5?

if i were you, i'd switch to madcow's version.

The workout your doing doesn't sound good...

Here's what I have as the backround on my computer, I recomend you do the same thing. :)

(except I replaced rows with power cleans )
