Fucking BT and they just charged me 74 quid for another line, rip up the old cable getting ready for the ASDL...... it rocks though, the first time I've EVER seen a dial-up modem's speed maxxed out!

a quid = a pound sterling.

why do you need to have an extra line for ADSL i thought you can use the existing phone line?!

For most people yeah, but my cable dated back to the GPO(hell, I still had a GPO socket that was hardwired to a BT plate and socket.

I think 35+ years of paint, weather etc had finished it. Anyway, they said it had to go and re-wired it about 30 feet to another exchange box. I thought maybe I was being bullshitted, but my connection speed with a dial-up is so much better I guess they must be right.

Yeah, I think so.... it seems the best value. I don't like AOL(from past experience they are slow and unreliable connection).

I live very near a HUGE industrial estate so I am wondering if I can pick up wireless LAN signals from it. In London loads of people are doing it(Fi-Fi or something).

Ah, well, that was only temporary....... I've had a computer since 1979. Jeez, I was ahead of my time in 85 when I had my 2400/2400 baud modem for my BBC Model B+........ And I had to pay 800quid for my US Robotics HST multiplexing modem for my Amiga 500. Yep, my first PC was in 96, until then I HATED PC's, but I could that the Amiga was going under(years of MC6800 coding, demo's, cracking etc all now forgotton). So I forked out 900 quid for my first 100mhz pentium, and it was a bargain, I could just about get on with it. Then I joined Elite.....

Now...... I think of the speed of that 2400/2400 baud modem compared to my forthcoming ASDL, what progress in 15 years, it's almost scary what the next 15 years might bring.

Yup, now I own a cushy little notebook, but I'm gonna get the latest latest Sony one next year when it comes out.

i dont like sony vaio's....they are really good and look great, but they are usually so small anything u need you have to plug something into them and everything u buy costs enough because its from sony

what about a Dell or toshiba?
