Hello everyone-

My name is Charlie and I am 41 years old! I currently weight 290. I went to Dr. this past fall to have some bloodwork done, since I had not been for over 15 years. I had gained alot of weight over the last 2-3 years (40pounds), mainly around my stomach, and was concerned about diabetes/thyroid etc. Anyway, I was cleared of diabetes, however doc called me and said I had low Test levels and recommended Test injections- he said it would be good for losing belly fat and staying lean/gaining some muscle etc---sounded good! Here is my dliemma- my wife and I have been trying to conceive/get pregnant, and she has always had some hormone issues and challenges. I have always had great fertility/sperm lab results (3-4 tests). Bottom line is the general family doctor did not mention that this could shut me down or be harmful with fertility. I even asked him about this, and he said it is good for sperm motility and production. I rcvd my first shot in December 200mg of Tcyp. I returned in January and did not feel any difference after 3 weeks. So he then started doing weekly of 200mg ew for the last 7 weeks. I am concerned because I did not realize this could be an ongoing process (hence TRT), again doc never mentioned this. I was due for a shot this week on Tuesday and skipped it. I met with doc and asked questions about what was his plans, and he didnt have a clue in relationship to PCT or HCG/AI's etc. He just said he would taper me off!!! I asked to see an endo- going 2morror/Friday. Here is the deal I got a copy of my original labs from November (First & only lab), and my total test was 362 ng/dl ranfe of 280-800, and my Free Test (Direct): 8.3pg/ml range of 6.8-21.5. My free test seems low comparesd to Total. Any thoughts?? Also, should I consider taking some HCG for a few weeks to help out until I decide or get with ENDO?? Main concern is fertility & also getting my natural levels back to where they were!!!! I think through better diet, losing some weight, getting more sleep -terrrible sleep patterns/ and test boosters, loweering estrogen etc. that I will be ok in the 400-500 range! Anyone agree/ disagree?? I just dont wanna be on injections the rest of my life unless absolute necessary ya know! I would really appreciate some feedback and any ideas/ concerns! Lastly, what should I ask the endo on my appointment tomorrow??? Thanks

You will be fine with that low dose. Actually the increased test will help your sex drive when trying to conceive. Might fix some of your problems. The reason you are seeing a low amount of free test compared to total test is because the free is getting eaten up in the liver by SHBG (sexual globulin binding hormone); usually a result of being old, fat, crappy westernized diet, low metabolism, low thyroid and all the problems you are dealing with...41 years old, over weight, ect. all due to your crappy hormone profile.

Now your doc has given you a shot of a low dose of test which should fix some of those problems.

Remember there is a difference between shutting down your natural production and sperm production. Those little guys get made about 30-60 days out and you only need one to find its way. And you won't get shut down from 200 mgs of test a week, regardless what the amateurs on the site will tell you.

You start taking a gram+ a week of test you will shut yourself down. Start taking mass dosage of deca and you will shut down.

200 mgs? that might be the magic bullet.

I would say the increased test in the short run will make you feel better and probably improve your sex drive which will result in having a baby quicker than you know.

How do I know? My girl is 8 weeks prego with twins in the midst of a 16 week cycle of a lot more than 200 mgs of test.

My training partner? been on a gram a week for 2 years straight. Girl is 6 months pregnant. I hope the kid doesn't come out looking like my milk man.

Everyones body is different. Some guys look a drug and their tits grow, their balls shrive and they lose hair.

Other guys take all they want, never have any estrogen sides, have kids if their girl misses her pill for a day and squat a 1030 lbs.

Most guys fit in the first category. A few fit in the 2nd.

In case you were wondering I rarely post b/c I just read the site for entertainment. I have never seen guys take so much and get so little out of it. As if they want to get strong, but not at the expense of not being lean, looking to cut or ready for summer.

You actually had a concern and I could see your doctor and the uneducated giving you heaps of bad advice.

Sorry man, that's part of getting old. Sure there are a lot of things you can do to boost your natural test, but it's really not going to just go back to how it was in your 20's. You should be happy that you have a thorough doctor. A lot docs are old school and wouldn't even put you on test. You are gonna be a lot more healthy taking those injections and you are going to see the results you want over time if you exercise and eat right. Also, your sex drive, mood and over all sense of well being will be improve significantly. I highly recommend taking the injections. With the cyp they give you, you may still remain fertile. I guess I can only say, hurry up and knock her up so you can get your t levels on track.

Just an update: I quit the shots of Tcyp-- this tuesday will be 2 weeks since my last shot!! Thanks Aholligan for your response. And u r correct that over the last 5-7 years my diet has been crummy and that certainly dont help. Also, I exercise about 4 months out of the year and do not remain consistent. I went to a specialist/endocronologist this past friday, and he confirmed that I really didnt need the test injections, unless I plann ed on remaining on them, which was never explained. He felt that since I had the testosterone in my system for close to 3 months that it probably had shut me down and decreased my sperm production. He said that within 3-4 weeks after the exogenous test entered my system, it started to turn off my HPTA-which shuts down your natural production, which eventually can slow down your sperm also. Moving forward, do u think I should take a few injections of the HCG i have on hand, or just skip it and consider some clomid to restimulate my LH & FSH??? Any thought on what I take now, or should I do as the endo recommended, which is to take nothing and just let body rebound on its own? Im thinking I might have high E2-estradiol, and I dont wanna have a crash ya know!! I have not ordered any serms yet or PCT cause I was not aware what the family docs plan was. I understand now, that I was taking the high end of TRT, and a low amount for a cycle-- regardless, somethin was causing me to have relatively norma/low natural test. Thanks for the feedback and giving me some hope that I still might be able to conceive in the short term. Gotta understand im 41 and my wife is 40-- she is entering the age where yoiur odds dramatically go down for conception. But thanks again and any more ideas on what I should take or not take moving forward. But I have decided to stop the injections, and try an get my natty levels --hopefully back to where they were before i took any injections. And I agree that a better diet along with working out with heavy weights and taking some good supps should be able to boost my natty levels!!!

Jasondub,
so should I have my LH & FSH tested right now becasue i just stopped the injections 12 days ago. The endo thought i should wait 30 days and then test my Blood and all hormones. He thought right now wouldnt be a good time/ worth it, since he assumed those levels woul;d be off due to my HPTA being suppressed by the Tcyp. I was thinking of having a sperm lab done tho just to see what the test injections have done to my sperm!!

In response to FLEXNDS ---- Are u kidding me that I have a thorough doctor???? WOW, he put me on testcyp injections without explaining any of the negative side affects, or explaining to me that typically TRT is an ongoing or lifetime process. Once u have test injecions over 3- 4 weeks it shuts down your natural production, and in many cases can drive down your sperm production if taken for an extended time period. From everything ive researched and the folks ive talked too, Testosterone (exogenous) definitely suppresses your testes and lowers sperm count. And yes although some folks have knocked up their partners while on cycle, doesnt mean that it does not lower your sperm count, because it certainly does!!. However, my doctor knew we were trying to conceive and have been dealing with fertility issues for awhile, and the last thing a person should be taking if trying to conceive is an Anabolic.. The endo/aspecialist I met with was shocked that my family doc started the injections in the first place since my levels were in the normal range---not real low for a 41 year old. Low wouldve been below 250, and then most TRT or HRT clinics start youn out on 100mg every 2 weeks and then adjust. Also many folks on TRT take small dosage of HCG to keep there nuts functioning and to prevent atrophy. The endo also confirmed that my doc shouldve explained how testosterone affects your HPTA and all that entails! My doc never had a clue about HCG or taking any PCT etc. He was absolutely clueless. His plan was to give my shots for 10 weeks and then cut me or taper me back to once a month--- how idiotic is that. My point is he is facing a major complaint at the minimum. Prescribing someone T injections doesnt make a good doctor, unless its necessary and he excplains all the side affects and a decent plan if one doesnt decide to stay on the shots. Aperson needs a treatment plan after taking ASterroids, and he had no idea about what I would do once I stopped the shots. Sure my labs would look good and Test levels would go up during the time on the shots, but then what???? IMO he did me a major disservice. i wouldve been better off, with taking an AI or or estrogen blocker and allowing that to boost my natural production, and recommended better diet/sleep etc. Also, if a doctor is going to script any shots, they first need to do a thorough blood lab and check all hormone levels---such as LH & FSH, E2, DHT etc. to determine whether primary or secondary hypogonadic. He just checked my basic CBC/PSA and total testosterone. He didnt even check my hormone levels, so he was unable to diagnose hper or hyp hypogonadism. I asked and he didnt know which I was. So he was far from thorough my froiend!!!!! FYI Hope this helps someone who is considering starting TRT and is undecided and is in the normal low range. There are better alternatives to try first to trey an get your natural levels up, before starting the shots or being on them for a lifetime!!!
