8 day priority mail

Pkg was mailed 8 days ago, priority mail. Sender sent recipient's gear to recipient as they were both moving to a new state.

Taking gear on the plane was decided against.

Package was packed well and send along with another parcel that contains personal belongings.

Contents value ~= $700. Package is pretty small size.

Obviously, the recipient is quite nervous.

The recipient is anticipating a knock and talk, although it is possible that there was a mistake sorting and delivering the package. What else should the recipient prepare for?

Package arrived before 7:30 AM in front of my door, a total of 10 days after when it was shipped. There was no note.

I thought this was very weird, so I did not open it, but instead took a close look at the package.

Some of the tape near the bottom of the box was cut or ripped. The package weighs a total of 0.4 oz heavier than when it was shipped. This could be due to a scale error, though.

We inspected it a little more carefully and the package was definitely opened and then retaped with a different (but similar) tape. That would account for the 0.4oz weight increase.

We do not know who opened and retaped. The sender, who lives with me, ripped the label off the package and put it back in front of the apartment so that the label would not have our names on it.

I left for an appointment right after that, and I am supposed to be back home now.

I am not home now. The sender is supposed to be home to let me in (at my address), but is not answering the phone, which is definitely not something I'd expect this person to do.

The package was opened and placed quietly in front of our door late last night. Since it was priority mail, it should not have taken 10 days.

The regular postal worker could not remember delivering any parcels or priority mail to us. How did the package get to our address? And how did it arrive in front of our door -- at such an odd hour. And most disturbing of all: Why was the package opened, retaped, and placed in front of our apartment door late at night?

It seemed very weird, but was it a set up? The package was such a small amount of gear, and it was domestic, so they should not have been able to legally open it. And if it were a set-up, then why would they leave it there, unattended and available for anyone to grab?


We do not know how the package got there, why it took so long, why it had been opened and then retaped, or why it was done at such an odd hour. We assume that the alternate postal worker left it in the mailbox area and a curious neighbor picked it up, opened it, and realizing that she was getting into more than she wanted to, stealthfully put it in front of our door late at night.

I would bet it was a neighbor or one of their kids.. thats happened to a couple guys i know.. the neighbor kids wanted to know what kind of "protein" the guy was on.. so they jacked his package and left it later that night.

Yes, it is normal, many packages are opened, but mainly they are looking for recreational drugs or explosives.
