565lb Barbell Hack Squat PR

shwaym said:
id lessen the weight if you have to round your back AT ALL, either that or stop once you cannot not do another rep without rounding your back

My back feels very strong in this position but maybe thats just me

there are lots of exercise where your back is supposed to be bent over....... and this is just one of them.

most people think that if your back rounds on any exercise then its bad form. but this is not true. if your back rounds and then you lose the lift, it makes sense to train your back in that rounded positition. but just becareful, that is a lot of weight in that positition.

ThanX Exodus I agree Last week I felt alot of tension in my abs when attempting 570 I got it off the ground a few inches but decided not to fight thru the pain. Not worth tearing something you know. Theres always next week. Plus I had already set 2 PR's on that lift that same day. Have to keep my greed in check haha ThanX again for the response

Very nice! I have only done these once, but I have been meaning to do them again. Right now I am in a weights class so I can ony do what the teacher says to do:(

Just hit 565lbs on the barbell hack squat a 20lb increase from last week. No one else seems to do these heavy. Just wanted to get my foot in the door You guys inspire me :leap:

Any way you could post a video or series of pics of you doing this?

I have tried them and every time my ass seems to get in the way and I have to "wiggle" the weight up. It get's uncomfortable and feels dangerous for me due the "wiggle".

Welcome to the boards, BTW.:)

Yep. Lots of trainers will say that, and provide the reasoning that bending/rounding is indicative of a weak core. In your average office boy (or girl), yeah, probably this is true.

Most gym trainers just don't know about powerlifting.

Exodus, I would've voted for you in the back competition but I didn't quite understand the voting rules and categories.

And WalkingBeast, 565 is heavy. Did you fall down on your way to the fountain?

Hi Joker At the moment I dont even own a camera haha and am lucky if I have more than 5$ a day for food on my current budget. There might be someone who can take some pics for me though I will have to ask at my gym. Cuz someone there has a digital cam and took some pics for me once before. Havent seen this person in some time though, but Ill try.

I had the same problem the first two times I tried the lift off the floor, but didnt take me long to adjust since I had done them a few inches from the floor with close to 700 on the power rack. Might also be because I have small hams and glutes, but have always been strong in the legs Have pressed 1300 on the leg press machine for 15-20 reps and 16 plates (about 800) for 60 reps. Also found I could lift a golf cart up to full exention pretty easily grabbing it from behind and squatting it up somewhat. (had alot of time to screw around on my security job haha). So the position was pretty natural to me for some reason. I never hear of or see anyone doing this movement or going heavy on it, just wanted to get all your views on it cuz people at my gym or just freaked out and I dont even talk to them anyway haha. Im sure you guys know how it is in a commercial gym. It just goes straight up now very little friction on the back of my legs definately not enough to stop a lift from going up. ThanX again for the response

cool Im really not even sure what they benefit to be honest. I get real sore all through my back but I train back for 7 hours on mondays heavy barbell rows, lat pull downs deadlifts hack lifts lots of chin ups lots of rest so its hard to tell what taxes me most. Im also not sure that soreness is the best gauge for effectiveness but its always been kind of a rule Ive trained by. Im hoping itll do something positive haha
