3 shoulder questions.

1. Are there different muscles used when you do hammer grip shoulder press, in contrast to regular palms forward grip? if so which ones?

2. what is the difference between a shoulder width grip military press, and a wide grip military press, does it hit different parts of the shoulder?

3. How many pressing movements do you do in one shoulder workout?

i am basically trying to hit shoulders a bit better as i feel they are lagging, any suggestions would be good!

cheers

1. more front delt if your elbows are facing forward vs. out to the side.

2. again, depending on elbow position, will involve more side delt as the elbows drift outwards.

3. One.

1. What bignate said. Vary the grips you use from week to week and you should see less stagnation of your gains. Stay away from behind the neck movements as these are a sure path to eventual injury.

2. What bignate said.

3. Personally (and my shoulders are nothing to ignore), I do 3 excersises with front delts being the most intense, and the lats and rear being lighter in nature as I fatigue.

DB shoulder press (5X5, or 4X10, or 3X5,4,3 -very heavy followed by 2X10 -light)
lat raises 2 or 3 sets of 10
rears are hit with a combined upper mid back workout using wide grip, elbows out, high rows.

My shoulders are wasted after this.

4 days later I do extensive cuff work to make sure I don't fry my shoulders during the intense workout above.

Remember that your delts are smaller muscles than many so pushing them hard (like I do) can be a bit much.

That's my brain dump ...
