No wonder he has seemed distracted as of late. No doubt he has been writing speeches and formulating strategy & long term planning.

were you really at a communist convention?

Communism is not a viable option. If human nature would allow it, then it would be ideal. Unfortunately, the urge to dominate is too strong. Therefore, I am not a communist. Although, I would suggest doing a little in-depth reading on it. It is quite interesting.

i've read marx, but that's the only 'pro' communist literature i have read. i have read about how it is responsible for the deaths of over 100 million though.

i'm not calling you a communist, i was just curious if you went or not.

touche.

can you explain to me why there are still communists, even though this system of government has been proved to be a failure repeatedly, all within the last century? the only countries that are still being run by a communist regime, have their people living in poverty and/or in constant fear of government reprisal?

Communism and socialism are a joke. They run against human nature as 2thick said. Progression stems from competition.

The simple answer lies in the percentage of people in the world that are in developing nations and (by our standards) are dirt poor living hand to mouth. It does not take much to convince the 80%+ percent of the earth's population that is impoverished that everyone should be equally taken care of in terms of rations and salary. It is only the rich 20% of the world's population that complains since they have SO much to lose if everyone were compensated equally.

every 1st world country is socialist. Even america, where 40%+ of our tax dollars go to socialism/communism inspired government programs like Medicaid/medicare & social security.

Name 1 'developed' country that lives by you or p0ink's philosophies on government.

that's impossible, because a utopian society simply does not exist.

I think it can be aruged that this country started out much less left wing than it is now...besides, this country isnt totally socialst...I agree with some ideas about govermentizing certain things, but since when has doing so in general led to anything but wasted money and sloppy progress?

no smartass, the brazilians basically elected a socialist because things were going so bad.

no they didn't. They were tricked into voting socialist by the cummunists. We have to impose martial law in brazil, burn the village to save it.

the communists tricked the brazilians to vote socialist. So now we have to overthrow brazil to save its people from socialistic slavery.

I just read through the World Bank Development report 2002
for south/central america

Brazil is in shambles.

The urge for being lazy and taking "the sytem" for granted is too strong. Can you honestly say you have never been in a working environment where some people weren't nearly pulling their weight while others had to work that much harder to compensate? I seriouly doubt you would take a liking to the whole communist ideal if it where put into action my friend.

According to marx I should just be able to waltz into your house and take whatever I "need."

*walks out of your house with all your gear*

If you try to leave my house with my gear I will gladly give you and 5 gallon bucket of whoop ass and be kind enough to open for you, too.

:p :p :D

I didn't think you canadians used gallons as a unit of measurement.

Faulty logic. This country began and developed as a republic and only recently begun exhibiting qualities present in a socialist or communist government, which will be the downfall of the nation if things are not corrected.

If you asked me 100 years ago to name one developed country that lived by my philosophies on government, I'd say the United States.

From each according to his need, to each according to his ability.

When Alexis de Tocqueville visited America in the late 19th century, he was overly impressed with the workings of the political system. I wish it were still similar to that.

And who exactly would be doing the convincing? Some sort of a Leninist caste of political cadres, i.e. "the vanguard of the proletariat"?

The illiterate masses don't think or act on their own.

The convincing is done by an opportunistic dictator who feeds on the suffering of the common peasant.

Any person could convince a dirt farmer that equality of resources is the best course of action.

2 Thick, you and your buddy Matt the Skywalker may be the 2 most informed, educated Moderaters about politics, current events, and general knowledge about the world. I have noticed that you never reply to any threads about religion and I was just wondering why?

I do not know about myself, but Matt and Stumpy are the top dawgs in politics and religion.

I do not post much on religious threads because I get so caught up in them that I spend too much time arguing and miss my hourly meals.
