Now you are absolutely correct when A compound is looked at chemically if one little carbon atom is boded wrongly to a chemical then it could take something like dball and turn it into a birth control pill. Thats where the experts come in. Not every drug has the ability to do this. Take codiene for example. Codiene is a derivative of morphine and resembles it almost exactly when you look at its chemical structure(same for heroin). Chemists who are hired to do this are paid mucho dinero and know the in and outs of making a compound into something undetectable. While it is not standard practice, it is done mostly at the olympic level.
