17 yr old's corvette was ripped in half doing 80mph. hit a semi head on.

20 minutes from my pad
there are always freakin cops out there
80MPH is pretty slow for a corvette to be flipped through the air...more like 130-140

Here's a thought. My current car, probably for my own good, is electronically limited to 110 MPH.

If I had a kid, I would probably try to mod the chip so that the car would be limited at, say, 65.

Pops shoulda seen it coming. At 17 I drove my dads '63 Chevy Impala (in 1981) and this was before it became retro cool.

Why is it his parents fault? I bought my own corvette when I was 18, and a mustang when I was 16. Not new ones of coarse, but shit, I'm still here. Obviously the kid was a dipshit.

well would you want your own kids driving a machine that can do zero to 60 in around 5 seconds? or being able to acclerate though 60 mph and beyond? i wanted a 91 5.0 stang at 16.dad said it wad too much car for me and nothing about the money since he help me pay for a more expensive ride.

and think about when his friends were in that vette? the wild shit they pulled i bet.

This is exactly why insurance rates are set out the way that they are.

If/when I have kids that will need cars, I will get them an older and heavier safe car - ideally the old boxy Volvos or Saabs.
Those you can drive full speed into a brick wall and then roll over 3 times and still get out of it with cuts and maybe some broken bones.

A Vette, regardless of how fast it can go, is designed to be light and fast, not safe - esp anything older than '95 or so - not that I feel the new ones are all that safe either.

There is no way I'd put my kid in a Vette or a Civic - I would want something better in a crash at any speed since kids are retarded.

i got that beat car wise. my best friend is rich as hell. when he turned 15 he got a 2000 corvette for his birthday!! it was the newest year for the car. unbelievable. he was pulling HS senior poo-tang when he was in the 10th grade because of his car. bastard :D....i did get the girls' friends though :D

I know how people drive out here. In Dallas, you have to drive safe and watch everyone around you carefully...there are idiots on the road and it is easy to crash a vette once it gets loose @ high speed.

I feel for his family, tough way to go.
