when you buy your child a car whether you know it or not you are sending your kids a message. you don't buy a 17 yr old kid a high powered sports car. yes he could speed and die in a yugo but buying a yugo is a lot more discouraging. also someone especially a 17 yr around his high school buddies are going to be less apt to show off in front of his friends in a less powered car.
that is the same thing as telling him, "hey little jonny, here is a corvette, not drive carefully and don't speed." ............yea right.
buying him that kind of car is telling him subconciously that speeding and going fast is ok whether that was their intention or not. when you buy a child a sports car you are telling him speeding is ok and cool.
his parents could have said don't speed until they were blue in the face but thats like telling a drunk guy at a titty bar, here is a paid for hooker but don't get a blow job
It comes down to the responsibility of the child......at a certain point parents do not have control.
IMO...a Yugo is alot more dangerous than a Vette.
