the news report said a 17 yr old died last night when he lost control of his corvette doing 80mph and hit a semi head on. it also said his younger brother was with him but survived the accident. THIS CAR WAS RIPPED IN HALF......and several other pieces

key words: HIS CORVETTE

WTF!!!!!

why is a 17 yr driving a corvette?? his parents should be held accountable for this. his parents should be tried for manslaughter.

here are pics of the accident....

kids should not drive high powered vehicles. this is why you do not get your kids cool cars. they have plenty of time in life to be cool. not at f'ing 17......damn this type of shit makes me insane

I'm buying my kids an accent. You are right, young drivers (generally) shouldn't be driving fast cars, most lack the maturity.

Thats just nuts. Sadly these days it doesn't matter if a kid has a civic or a vette, they will speed. Especially now that they all think that even a 4 banger econo car is a race car. But giving a kid that much power is just trouble.

An old friend of mine was giving a chevette as her first car. Her father wanted her to learn to drive safetly, and not go nuts. She quickly learned that if she wanted anything better, she would have to learn to be a good driver. After a couple of years, he saw she respected the road, and got her an old corolla (nothing fancy, but better than a chevette). She has never gotten a speeding ticket, but oddly enough, her sister who is raised by their mother, was given an eclipse right away and has had MANY tickets. Go figure.

Sad indeed. I drove a pickup @ 17. Rusted out old beat up chevy pickup.

Indeed..
My Daughter is 12, and her granny just bought an 02
VW Beetle that she intends to hand down to her on her 16th Birthday.

It should only have 20K miles by then as granny hardly drives it much..

I had a cool fast 73 hand me down V8 Camaro LT when I turned 17 in 1979.
I was told that if I got just 1 speeding ticket, I was walking...

This thing happens all the time. When will parents learn?

You can die in any type of car at 80 MPH. This was not the parents fault.

when you buy your child a car whether you know it or not you are sending your kids a message. you don't buy a 17 yr old kid a high powered sports car. yes he could speed and die in a yugo but buying a yugo is a lot more discouraging. also someone especially a 17 yr around his high school buddies are going to be less apt to show off in front of his friends in a less powered car.

that is the same thing as telling him, "hey little jonny, here is a corvette, not drive carefully and don't speed." ............yea right.

buying him that kind of car is telling him subconciously that speeding and going fast is ok whether that was their intention or not. when you buy a child a sports car you are telling him speeding is ok and cool.

his parents could have said don't speed until they were blue in the face but thats like telling a drunk guy at a titty bar, here is a paid for hooker but don't get a blow job

My goal is to give them a car that CAN NOT go 80MPH, but I hear what you are saying.
