I think 10-15 years would be sufficient, Life is too harsh IMO.

please read the thread before coming up with stereotypical assumptions on me.

I interpreted that statement as you employing sarcasm to prove a point. Good to hear you actually care about the poor kid.

They might as well put him to death if they are going to take away his entire future like this. I think its waay too drastic, maybe he will somehow get parole. Its not like the kid was a career criminal, just lacked common sense like most 14 year olds.
Not trying to justify the murder, and I didn't hear the facts of the case, but I don't see how putting a 14 year old in jail for life is going to help anything. 10-15 would be a just punishment for his immaturity.

Jeff_rys said:"This 14-year old should be drawn and quartered, along with the lawyers that came up with such a bullshit defense (see RyanH's poll on death penalty)."
Why not let him free and let the people take care of it?
Can anyone (WHO HAS KIDS), imagine what this is. My god, if it was my kid, i would kill him myself if he would become free.
I couldn't live knowing he walked free.
MUSTANG_18 said:IMO he got what he deserved. At 14 you are smart enough to know what is right and what is wrong so he should be locked up. Why should he get a second chance when the little girl he killed does not ?

manny78 said:I think it was more involuntary homicide

well agree in part bro, but there's one thing that bugs me: it wasnt a first-degree murder. And I'm sure any lawyers here will agree on this point. I think it was more involuntary homicide....following the Canadian criminal Code.
Yes the sentence is way too harsh. For once I agree with Salami. If it was your 14 year old son a lot of you wouldn`t think the way you do about the sentence.TheSalami said:
if you were the little girls dad would you think it was too harsh? think about the victim not the criminal.

Prosecutor Ken Padowitz tried to broker a deal last year in which Tate would plead guilty in exchange for a sentence of three years in a juvenile center, followed by one year of house arrest, 10 years of probation, various psychological testing and treatment, and 1,000 hours of community service.
Julez said:I don't know about US law but here a person can only be convicted of murder if they met two conditions:-
1/ They had the 'actus reas' - guilty act, they killed the person(S)
2/ They had the 'mens reas' - guilty mind, they INTENDED to kill the person(s)
In court if condition 2 is not met the criminal prosecution service(CPS) will change the charge to either voluantary or involountary manslaugter.
We had a case a few years ago of the Jamie Bulger kills. Jamie was around 4. Two kids of 12 took him to a railway track and threw rocks at him until he was dead. They were detained at 'Her Majesty's Pleasue' (ie, indefinetly). They are 18 now and out of prison. The public outrage was so great that they had served about six years the crown took out injunctions to stop the press publishing their current photos, address details, etc.
It is widely believed that they are now living in Australia or even America under new identities.
My point... did this kid intend to kill the girl? If not this should be taken into consideration. Those Bulger killer sacks of shit should still be in prison.
BTW, In this country drunk drivers who kill in car 'accidents' get off with around 5 years.....
