I've never seen a guy shirtless in a club around here. I imagine if a guy did that around here everyone would kick his ass for being queer. I've seen some shirtless women in clubs before. We don't kick their asses though.

Take the shirt off!!! Most of the people who have responded to "no shirts off" seem to live in rural areas or parts of the country that are a bit behind the times. I think taking off your shirt lets you show all your hard work. Thats why I like Sound Factory in NYC on a Saturday night. Lots of muscled bodies-both male and female-wearing next to nothing.
It seems on this board that when you step a bit outside of the norm, you're either characterized as a trouble-maker or queer.

In the clubs I attend, GIANT, Rubber, Spundae @ Circus all in LA, it gets extremly hot after about 20 mins of dancing. After an hour, I'm usually drenched in sweat. I never take my shirt off, but I do wear a tank top. A LOT of guys go shirtless, and I think it has to do with the freaking heat generated from everyone dancing. If girls can wear tank tops and skirts that over only an 1/8th of their body, why can't we men get the oppurtunity to cool down.
Again, I guess it depends on the venue. The clubs I go to usually have at least 1000 people show up...usually a lot more. In a little dive that some people may call a club, it may not be appropiate.

Around me the clubs usually do not allow the shirts to come off, I think it's a class/respect thing. After hours parties, that's a different story, shirts come right off.

I agree with furious... I think that the heat is the number one motivator for removing your shirt. I party it up in NYC, Philly, and DC (I live in South Jersey), and many people with good bodies and some with not so good bodies take off their shirts after an hour or so.
I usually wear tight sleeveless shirts to clubs so I can show off my hard work, but show a little class as well. However, I also dance at some clubs on the boxes and when it gets really hot I take off my shirt because it is more comfortable.
I can understand that there will always be player-haters out there that are going to look down on people removing their shirts as cocky bastards, but most people go to these clubs for the same reason - to meet people and have fun. Don't be just another hater.
Now, as far as bars/lounges are concerned (which is what I think some of you are thinking of when we say clubs) - then it IS inappropriate to remove your shirt. It is a different atmosphere. In dance clubs everyone is furiously dancing, in bars and lounges there may be some dancing, but it is mainly talking.

I said I clubbed in NYC, Philly, and DC. I never said I took my shirt off at all those places. I've been to Nation and Platinum in DC, but I only club there when I'm at school. However, I did see several people at Nation without their shirts on.
Admittedly, I've seen more people in Philly and NYC take their shirts off, but I don't think it really matters what city you are in - if it gets too hot people will remove clothing. Why is this so hard to conceive?

I always party in NYC every weekend. You can count on me to take my shirt off about 10 min. after I get into the club. This is why the city is so fun. They put NO limitations on what you can and can't do in there. Next sat. at the sound factory UNDERWARE NIGHT, yup plenty of chicks running around in their thongs

My point exactly man, I was at the underwear party last year, Dont get me wrong ..when the theme of the party is come in your fucking underwear, You wont find me complaining BUT as you said when its 110degress and elbow to elbow EVERY SATURDAY its just kinda nasty to have some other guys sweat all over you. Sound factory has taken a bad rep for this very fact over the last few years, different crowd.

This a shot of the outside smoking area at one of the clubs I go to. Inside it is about 100+ degrees. The clothes that guys wear generates more heat then what ladies wear...it's all about cooling down.

To whoever asked if I was ever at a underwear night, the answer is no. But i'm figuering since every chick is already practically wearing underwear on a normal night I can imagine what it will be like when the theme is to just wear it.

I'm not sure about that pic that Johnny O posted. Not a flame on you or anything, but it looks like a gay bar from that pic. It reminds me of Mickeys on Melrose or The Oz on Bourbon. I don't have anything against gay bars, gf and I will go a couple of times a year but I won't take my shirt off in one. It probably smells better than if everyone left there sweat-dripping shirts on. Most people shower and use deodorant and cologne before they enter a club anyway, so that should cover up most bad smells.

Depends on where you are and what you look like.

I have noticed that most people here that think it is stupid have probably never partied in NYC clubs. I've been in many big cities, and nothing can compare (I'm sure some international places are better, but I'm talking about the US here). There is a place in Philly too that's OK, called Shampoo, the closest thing to NY that is around. I couldn't find anything good in Atlanta or Chicago, just when the music gets good for a while the bust into some hip hop bullshit. Anyone that spends anytime at Exit, the Factory, CPI, or Neptune understands. For the rest of you, try it sometime, it's a world that you didn't even know existed.

At many of the clubs in SoBe you see lots of shirtless guys. Cool scene.
