I would diagree about Niacin not being a good choice simply b/c he has a higher than average HDL. It's not really about HDL or LDL...it's more about the ratio. The higher the HDL the better your HDL/LDL ratio. But you are right, he needs to work on lowering the LDL which again will improve...

There are studies that show Niacin will boot your HDL. Also, many doctors recommend cardio...I don't know what that does to increase HDL but they suggest it. The LDL....well that is genetic and some dietary. Try to reduce any foods that are associated with increased in LDL...you know what...
