I am still seeing gains on the 5x5 but it is getting more difficult to add weight. I really just want to focus on gaining a little more size. And, to be honest after I year I feel like a change would be good..
Will going to a high rep range and medium weight build size?
I have been using Starr's 5x5 for about a year now and have made excellent strength gains and some ok size gains.
Looking to focus a bit more on size than strength at this point.
Should I mix in some "high rep - medium weight" lifts? Go only to high rep - medium weight lifts?
Or alternate...
At this point i would be happy to just look strong!
I am 37, started lifting for the first time about one year ago and the last 6 months very consistent using starrs 5x5.
In six months I made the following progress...
Dead... 135 to 315lbs.
Squat...115 to 255
Bench...155 to 225...
I have been lifting for about two years now..for the last year I have been using the madcow 5x5. I will run hard for a month then taper, get re-motivated and do another month hard..this time I have done 2 months straight very hard.
I know I need to keep at it hard for much longer, guess...
Thanks for the responses!
Ghetto...thanks for the feedback! Everything your saying makes sense and deep down I knew but I needed to hear it from someone else to accept reality. I am 37, so the metabolism is not like it used to be so for me gaining a little slower and staying lean is probably...
Hey guys..I am 6'4" 210. I have been running Madcows 5x5 inter on and off for approx a year. The last 2 months I have stayed consistent and really worked hard..anyways here are some of my current 5 rep maxes:
Bench: 225
Squat: 240
Deadlift:300
I know those are not huge numbers but decent...
Lot of short dudes out there! When I was younger I hated being one of the tallest, now I would hate to be any shorter!
6'4" at 215 lbs. Was at 225 a couple weeks ago, wokring on cutting fat. I'll be down to 205 in the next 4 weeks.
High school I was super skinning...like 6'4" and 150-160...
This might be a dumb question...
I have been doing 5x5 for a while and am making good progress. I have not taken any before and after body measurements and because muscle growth is gradual I can't tell if i am putting on more muscle. My body weight has increased, but so has my waist-line (=more...
I have had "tennis elbow" several times throughout my life and if I have learned anything it there is nothing you can do about it. For me it seems to just go away all of a sudden. I have tried rest, anti-inflammatories, etc..nothing help as it seems to heal when it wants and not a second before...
I am on my 12th week and every workout kicks my butt! I have made excellent progress! I ran programs similiar to what you described in Men's Health book and my progress nearly dead ended. I kick myself for not doing to Int 5X5 sooner.
Good luck, looking forward to reading your results.
Thanks for the feedback DJ and others, much appreciated!
Oh yeah, the best investment I ever made was buying a power rack, bench and weights for home..I have been able to stay on a perfect schedule compared to when I was going to the gym!
Time to go lift.
I was making great prgress when I was eating like crap...but now that I have cleaned up my diet and reduced calories I am having more trouble making prgress.
Deadlift so much higher compared because until 11 weeks ago I almost never did squats or rows and my bench had stalled at 160 to 165 for...
