Has anyone been to a Worlds Fair before?

I lived in Knoxville when we had it here back in the 1980's.

And yeah, it's probably worth the hype. If it's a city you'd like to visit anyway, the world's fair can easily sweeten the deal.

I went to the one in 86 in Vancouver, British Columbia...It was pretty cool to go and I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'd want to go if I was a parent with small children though. Lots of walking, crowds, and all the usual stuff but some neat exposure to other countries and culture and food!!

I didn't even know they still did those?

We went to the "Hemisfair" in San Antonio when I was a kid. I think it was the summer between 8th and 9th grade. Compared to the '63/64 NY World's Fair or Expo 67 it was kind of a let down, it wasn't spectacular like past world's fairs.

I'm told its wayy wayy better than our local Big E

kinda ruined the Big E for me being told that :(

I wonder if modern technology has changed the value of a world fair? With all the internet and tv shows now...you can experience the world from your living room (I know..not the same as being there) but compared to say 1986...we really only knew what we read in books or saw on our VHS movies. :)

Next one is in Milan. Which is one my favorite cities anyway. I was thinking of returning this summer, but can put it off for a while if it is worth waiting until the WF is there.

Oh that would be a great call. Milan is a great city. I'd wait until the world's fair and do something different this summer. You'd get double bang for the buck, plus still do something fun this summer.

Milan is an awesome city! it'd be a shame not to go.

The fair is in 2015, I wouldn't put it off that long if you want to see Milan again. Besides, you can go this summer and then go back in 2015, that'll give you the opportunity to see "the real Milan" before all the failed urban renewal projects that always go along with a World's Fair. And then in 2015 you can complain about how everything is "too clean now".

Be sure to rent an Alfa Romeo while you're there.
