If you don't believe Jesus Christ was/is God...

If the bible can be trusted, he did make those claims in John 34. He said that He and the Father were One. The Jews wanted to stone him, that is how they understood Him. In John 10 he says he can give eternal life. He is either telling the truth, crazy as hell, or it's possible he was just lying.

There is no 34th chapter of the book of John. The verse you are referring to is probably John 10:30

Let's take a look at the portion to which you refer:

24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
>>>The Father is greater than all. Even Jesus?<<<

30 I and my Father are one.
>>>One how? In unity? As christians are called to "be one with god"?<<<

31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
>>>So, Jesus couldn't do these works without the Father?<<<

33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
>>>What??? The word of god said "ye are gods"? And we know that "the scripture cannot be broken (wrong)" so what gives? Surely Jesus must have quoted that out of context! Oh wait, he's perfect. WTF?<<<

37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
>>>"In me"? "In him"? Like christians are called to be "in Christ Jesus" (ie. Romans 8:1, et.al.)? But that doesn't mean every christian is actually Jesus, thus actually god, does it? Or does it? I mean Jesus himself quoted scripture that said "Ye are gods" (Psalm 82:6, Isaiah 41:23). I guess, according to the bible, we are gods. Maybe the mormons DO have it right!!!

i wonder though if his words were twisted after the fact,
like billfred alluded to.
the thought of jesus as a good bro spreading peace, not as
a bro going around claiming to be god's son, makes me more interested in the man and his word.

Could be. I wouldn't bother reading about him if the documents of his life and teachings have been corrupted. So you throw out the parts where he claims to be all of those things, and decide to believe the parts where he is teaching about love and forgiveness? I don't understand that. How do you know which parts have been twisted and which were not?

I believe in Jesus, yet I don't believe that everyone who has not heard of him will die and burn in hell. I just don't believe that.

If you believe the bible to be the inerrant word of god, then you do believe exactly that.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

Unless you believe in purgatory? A second chance for redemption?

Thanks ceo, shit. I made a typo. I hate that. lol Actually I'm not sure what I was referring to?? I'm guessing a verse and I forgot to add the chapter. I get excited and I post too quickly

i'm undecided on all the above, constantly revaluating and questioning.
trying to live a moral life in between

Romans 4:15; 5:13 Acts 17:30

Where there is no law there is no transgression.

But sin is not taken into account when there is no law

If you are ignorant of the law God will overlook it, but not all ignorance is innocent ignorance

Romans 1:20 - all people have some truth from nature and their own conscience

In 2Peter somewhere it says it is better to not know the way, than to know the way and turn your back on it

What about John 4:25-26? (checking twice this time) He calls himself the Messiah
or Luke 22:70 where he says he is the Son of God

for decades

John 8:24

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I AM he, ye shall die in your sins.

Exodus 3

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you
