so about 1.5 years ago, i went to a chiropractor who adjusted me and saw the need to pop my jaw, which hadnt given me any issues. . . well, two week later i was chewing gum and pop ! my jaw poped out of place, it was extremely uncomfortable and painful but bearable. . . since then my jaw pops and every morning i wake up i open my jaw to get that sucker mobile again. . .

so my question is, does anyone have understanding or history with "TMJ" and do you have a solution to get this sucker greasy again?

thx:wavey:

Why the hell would the chiropractor feel the need to pop your jaw? Apparently to keep you coming back to get it adjusted I guess. Fuck that, no one touches my jaw...they can adjust my back all day though.

Did he/she state why they needed to adjust your jaw? Never heard of that.

the chiropractor was a woman, and it was like wow! you could pop that too. . .felt fine until 2 weeks later. . . you think i should pop her jaw puddle monkey? lol
so i went to a different chiropractor bc i didnt want to go back to her and i thought he would def pop my jaw back, and he had no idea how to !!!!

Its probably more prone to popping out of place now. I would have told her she's out of her mind. Def have a lawsuit case.

i had TMJ a few years back for some months. it was nearly unbearable. but it just kinda went away. I did get a nighttime mouth guard custome made by my dentist (i apparently clench my jaw and grind my teeth) that i do not use.

Yeah I have TMJ, I also grind my teeth, bite cheeks, my jaw clicks, the whole deal.
Number One Rule: I never chew gum, it makes it much worse.
Stress makes it worse, I have to consciously relax my jaws.
I have had to get a clear filler in my molars due to the ridges from the clenching and grinding.
I'd call that chiro back and ask him to refer you to a medical professional that specializes in TMJ.
My jaw has never popped out, but that sounds serious to me.

Chiropractics are borderline medical fraud. Sure, your back/neck/whatever might feel better after they pop it....only to have it pop out again after sitting down in your carseat on the way home. This is because your tendons/ligaments get stretched and weakened from all the popping they do so they won't be able to hold the form unless you basically don't move for a few days. So people keep going to them again and again and again. Basically it's up to the patient to say when they've had enough, but few have enough faith in their own better judgement.

you know what... the way i ever got into it was a friend was going to get an adjustment and i went with him. . so i had got one, felt good.. no joke- in a day or two i felt my body out of alignment. suddenly i knew what it felt like to be out of alignment. . . i thought oh man!!!! i shoulda never got any adjustment to begin with

Yes, I do. Don't chew gum. Try not really eating anything chewy for a few days (including my cack, lols) and see if it improves.

Basically my experience is it will flare up every now and then but then go away for a year or so at a time.

Never heard of a chiro popping a jaw, that's nuts.

Hansel - disagree with you there. My chiro has fixed me up numerous times from sports related lower back/hip injuries. I go in for 3-5 sessions, get all fixed up...and don't return for a year or two until I get shook up again and it pops back out...the key is to do strength exercises (chiro recommends). If I keep up on it, I don't re-injure myself. When I get lazy, lo and behold it pops back out.... 'course there are some lame scammer chiros out there that don't have your best interests in mind. Get a referral from someone you trust.

yeah honestly a chiro was the only way I was able to walk when pregnant and had pubic symphasis dysfunction

Uhm, I may be totally wrong about this but I think I remember something about cartillage discs that can slip out of place in the jaw that and orthopedic surgeon can manipulate back into place

but yeah, no chewy stuff

lol i mean the cortico ones

yeah, lol...but steroids ARE a pop choice around here...

even if you meant of the prendisone variety (which made me gain 5 lbs in three days right before my wedding...grrrrrrrr)
