Speed Kills? Maybe Not...

Shitty driving causes 90% of non-dui accidents.

That includes speeding when unsafe, not necessarily 'speeding' itself. People who go 85 on multi lane roads that are clear and designed for high-speed aren't crashing into trees. All it takes is one dipshit to ruin it for everyone.

who cares about traffic accidents overall? show me that it's less than 25% of FATAL accidents and maybe i'll see your point.

If people drove EXACTLY how it's specified in dmv manuals to the T -- 95% of fatalities would disappear. Majority of accidents are preventable.

Say no to shitty driving.

The dramatic shift away from fatal accidents is much less than 55 miles per hour. For some reason, I think it's in the low 40's. If you get flipped or hit a concrete embankment, the difference between 55, 65 or 75 is negligible. Lower speed would only reduce the number of pieces they have to pick-up off the interstate.

I don't see us setting 35 mph speed limits anytime soon.

US DOT Report Confirms Speed Not Major Accident Cause

So speed results in 5% of traffic accidents, and 70% of traffic citations.

Just further proof that traffic enforcement is more about revenue than safety.

I've always believed in just a basic speed law. Speed limits are just another way to dumb down society and get its members to fork over more of their money whenever they get caught refusing to be a part of it.

Speed limits are all about fuel efficiency -- not safety. The environmental lobby has been pushing for a reversion to 55 mph for years now.

So everytime you're doing 70 in a 55 a cop pulls you over because of your choice to fund ExxonMobil's bottom line more than average....no.

No, it's a great source of income for states as well.

I'm simply pointing-out that the biggest pressure driving-down speed limits is the environmental lobby.
