Would it be crazy to take the SATs again? Need some valuable input

So i'm back in college as some of you know after not being in school for about 3-4 years.

Right now i'm back at a community college retaking some classes and a few courses away from my AA degree.

Just before i dropped out of school, i was at a 4 year university. I basically fucked up 2 semesters there because of major issues i had in my life and at the same time trying to make money and get my career going. I was dismissed after that final semester and never had a chance to drop my classes (all F's). At that point i thought i didnt even need school

My GPA was very very good when i was first in school and when i focused on it, but now...even with retaking some courses at community college and getting straight A's (which i am), my gpa won't be over a 3.0 because of those 2 semesters.

I really want to get in and graduate from a good school, and know i can but those semesters from almsot 5 years ago have fucked me. I may try to contact the 4 year school and try to see if they can do something. I have ADHD that is documented and was not treated for it at the time (as a possible explanation). but since it's been a long time i;m not sure..

Soooo. As a backup, I was thinking about this today...I did decent on the SATs in high school but i didn't really study for the math part or take it seriously...still got a low 1200 something. If i took them now, i could easily do amazing on them and get a much higher score. My thinking is that the colleges i'm looking to go to will see my SAT scores and my initial and most recent gradework and maybe overlook those 2 semesters.

ideas, comments, suggestions?

and yes i checked, you can take the SAT at any age.

I'm not sure one way or the other on the SAT's; but this would be an excellent idea. Depends on your old school, some bend over backwards to accommodate people with a medical excuse. One time I knew this really lazy dude (neighbor) he showed up to class high every other day, didn't show up all the time. He got a D- and then petitioned it saying he had a speech impediment and somehow got an A-. He had a Doctor's note though and documented and what not. Basically what I'm saying is USE your gift of gab. Explain your situation, sometimes you'll get lucky.

I think anything you do to better yourself is admirable and worthy or praise.

CW, I've seen you get back to school and take time off to better yourself, and that my friend is admirable.

Be proud of yourself, education goes a long way.

are you sure they won't take the new grade? check with the schools and see what their policy is, I know Tx A&M took the aveerage, but Baylor changed the grade to the A, make sure you know what each school does.

Calves. If your gpa is good except for those classes; just call the school you want to get into and explain. Then tell them you are planning on retaking those failed courses at their school. Just throwin' that out there in case it hasn't already been said.

Retaking the SAT's won't hurt and might improve your options.

But do NOT tell the universities you are applying to that you have ADHD. You can tell the SAT people and you will be given substantially more time to take the test and it will be in a more isolated setting. And when they pass-on the results of your test, the SAT folks aren't allowed to let the schools know you have ADHD. So unless you tell the university, they won't know. And you don't want them to know either -- once you're accepted you can tell them. It's extra effort on their part because they have to give you extra time to take tests in an isolated area as well.

Man, I wish they would ahve known that diagnosis in the late 70's, early 80's, hummm, more time to take tests, isolated w/ copius amounts of cheat notes, damn. Maybe I should go back to school too.

I am thinking about returning to school as well... Community college doesnt require me to take my SATs though till i decide to transfer

I'm working on trying to get academic amnesty(basically not count those courses towards my GPA) at my old school. it's going to be a pain in the ass though based on the conversation i had with them yesterday. We'll see, I'm sure if i fight hard enough i can get it done with the proper documentation.

i might try to resolve all that first....because regardless if i took the SATs again i'd still have to review and take a few practice exams

Thinking outside of the box, the fact you got 1200 on your SAT's might actually be an argument for the fact you just fucked up a couple of semesters because of illness - that proves you are actually pretty bright with one bad spot.

it's ok, but i could easily get a 1400+. my math scores were awful. i think i had an almost 700 verbal score.

the SATs are actually different now as they have a writing section, but i'm a pretty good writer so no biggy.

I just want to create some options for myself.

As is, there is NO way i can get into the university of florida. If i can manuever via SATs and maybe replacing some of these grades i could probably get into an even better school than UF (in a different state though, probably)
