are the quality of PCs on the market going up?

I got my last desktop off Ebay. Dell Dimension. I posted about it here. It was fucking brand new, and shipped to me directly from the DELL store even though I bought it from another seller. I went online and the exact same PC, the exact same hardware and specs was 2x much if I had bought from Dell.

Does this mean you get two operating systems?

Windows Vista Business w/ Windows XP Pro Downgrade

It comes with both, but you can only use one. When you first start it up, when it asks you for your name and to set a password and all that crap, you have the option to "Downgrade" to XP. If you choose that, it wipes Vista, installs XP, and there you are.

Does it come with a recovery disk and shit in case you accidentally kill the OS? You know, like I am famous for doing.

Ok, let's see who can find the cheapest PC out there.

Specs - 4-6 gigs of DDR2 or better.
500 or better HD.
wireless card for my network

only use for this machine will be working with photoshop type apps (graphics, photomatix, etc..), surfing the net, MS Office, and of course pR0n.

Anything under $599 which is the cheapest I have found. (this came with the usual front media bay for card readers, lightscribe DVD/Cd burner,e tc..)

I don't care for a gaming machine or anything.

They never ship a CD anymore, it's on a hidden partition on the hard disk. On a system with the downgrade option, there would be the equivalent of two OS installation CDs on that hidden partition, since it's got both Vista and XP.

U can download student copies or enterprise copies of the OS's off the net.....if u wanna be a pirate..... (insert pick3 butt pirate joke)

yeah, but if you wreak the OS and it doesn't operate how are you going to actually reboot the HD and restore it?

You cannot build one for cheaper than you can buy one off the shelf.

It's not possible with all the deals going on.

Intel chips generally have more processing power than intel chips clockspeed for clockspeed. Though there's evidence that AMD handles certain things better...another day, this is beyond the average user.

Once you get an off the shelf computer, uninstall all the crap software thats on there. It's just trial software anyway.
