Specialization training for lagging bodyparts// How good is it???

What I am talking about is a simple thing.

Basically , you spend more time and work on lagging muscle groups while spending minimal time for the other muscle groups, usually only for maintenance work.

So, you might train arms 3x week but you have to combine all other bodyparts in 1-2 training session(s).

It is said that the body has X capacity to recover. And to improve lagging muscle groups, it has to use more of that X to get better results.

Did you ever tried specialization program like this, especially a high volume one???
How were the results??

Also, you can give arms as an example in the discussions. Lots of people have those lacking, especially guys over 6-1 .

note : This thread is purely for discussion of specialization. We all know that we should eat, train, rest(at least we should). So don't change the topic.

Thanks

I think one should not worry about specialization until they reach a lean 3-3.5 pounds of BW per inch of height. This is a pretty good guideline to follow. You see a lot of guys post about their lagging arms when in reality their arms match their overall body mass. Unless you are a true beast with a legitimate lagging body part, then specialiaztion sucks imo. Eat, pick up heavy shit, rest, repeat, grow.

exactly! Too many 6 feet tall 180 lb. skinny bastards worrying about their "lagging" arms. bwahahaha!!!

hey im 6 ft 202. does that mean im a stick :(

my post wasn't directed at anyone in particular. I mean to say the same thing as SouthernLord. Unless you are carrying AT LEAST 3 lbs per inch of height, at a fairly decent bodyfat level (no higher than 12-15% maybe...at least a visible outline of abs), then you don't need to worry about a "lagging" bodypart...you just need more overall mass!

A. That is incredibly far from the truth. Your ideal image of an arm is heavily distorted by the world around you. There is no tendency for any muscle group to lag behind any other group amongst a broad spectrum.

B. Your body does not work as a sum of parts as far as healing and growing goes. At least not to the effect that you are insinuating.

Tripling your arm work while 1/3rd'ing the rest of your body will cause slow growth in your arms from overtraining and slow growth in the rest of your body from undertraining.

The best answer is to train normal. Your body grows in a logarithmic(opposite of exponential) fashion. Your untrained body part will grow faster then your trained body part, which causes it to effectively catch up.

Then the bodybuilders , lots of guys who do this job as a business (Thibaudeau to name first) don't know it's job.

This has been proven over and over again. Yes the other bodyparts of course will grow slower because they are worked at maintenance. If you think this doesn't work, then you probably don't know how to do this.

Your body will adapt to the stress the way it can handle the easiest. That's why it is not gonna grow well in proportions. Have you seen a olympic lifter with huge chest?? Kayakist with huge arms?? Chances are low. Do their less trained bodypart grow faster and catch up with others?? Of course not

And yes, tall guys suffer from this , A LOT.

And your untrained bodypart can not grow faster than your trained bodyparts. Otherwise , most fitness junkies would squat a ton and have huge legs

For me, my chest and quads are my weak or lagging body parts.

At one point I decided to try to just work chest and quads three times a week. Although I did improve in strength I didnt necessarily increase in size, at least enough that I thought that it was doing any good.

I decided just to continue with my normal routine.

It just didnt feel right to kinda ignore the the other muscle groups. (didnt ignore them completely)

I also like to do the core lifts like deads, bent over rows, squats.......

I will just say I have extremely long arms for my height and my back and pecs are way ahead of them. So I guess I will not need some specialization work because as some say they will not grow......... unless my pecs and back grow along...

That's total BS. Probably the lagging bodypart is never going to be better than your best bodypart but at least you can bring it close up to pair.

It's all a matter of finding out the type of muscle fybers that predominate your lagging bodypart and stimulating it correctly.
