reading a book about the gulag

I've read One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn which gave an interesting insight in to the Soviet Gulags from the perspective of one inhabitant. I'll definitely see if I can pick up that Gulag online second hand.

The Russians have never known a period without a totalitarian regime. There is a reason Russia reacts the way they do and it's based on centuries of culture and history. I laughed at Bush when he claimed Putin was a trustworthy western reformer...

seemingly the russians need to be treated with gentilness...real insecure about there place in this world and their history.
