A common one is a 'foreign' girl who writes and talks to you on the phone for awhile. There will be some made up story about how she lives close to you, but is away visiting family. She then wants to come back home and meet you, but needs you to send her money for a plane ticket cause she's broke. I saved my retarded buddy from falling for this
