Americans don't care about a sport unless they are best at it

Anybody who has played rugby and football knows you do football if you haven't got stamina and are afraid of being hit (hence the padding) and rugby if you want to play a real sport.

Shit in football they spend more time standing around than playing. How cvan any of them be 'endurance' athletes?
you'd be afraid of getting hit by a 275 lb defensive back
a truely violent game, not for the feint hearted soccer crowd

Yeah........but the sport is still called cricket.....I'm not sure we're ready to turn in our man cards for wannabe game of baseball.

So baseball has been around longer than cricket? You sure bout that......?

you're just saying that cause you're a rugby fan who knows nothing about football
and same with me vice versa
but saying there is more skill in rugby, without knowing a damn about nfl, pushes your ignorance above mine.
arguably, a quarterback is one of the most skilled positions in all of sporting events.
reading defenses, calling audibiles, connecting on passes, all of which you know little about

I admit that my knowledge of NFL isn't brilliant but i just can't get into it because of all the stoppages for ad breaks....that's why i said an independent judge. I'm sure in some positions the skill level is high but rugby seems a lot more diverse and there isn't time to stop and think. I like rugby but my favourite sport is cricket which most people here would find very sedate until they tried playing it at a good level.

LMAO and they wonder why americans are stereotyped as being big headed.

lol at the skill levels being higher
certain NFL positional players are some of the most skilled athelets in the world
if instead of NFL, rugby was popular, we would dominate
imagine players such as ray lewis, brian urlacher, ernie sims, playing rugby
there would be no competition

1. Cant stand soccer.
2. Been hit by my fair share of 275lbers. No big deal.

And of course those 275lbers don't last long in a game of rugby.

Rugby sucks and is for limp wristed pansies. Football (especially the NFL) sucks and is for goosestepping faggots.

Just saying.

i understand the basis of cricket and i could see how it could be enjoyable...and understandably i can see why NFL baffles you.
it's really a cultural thing and about much more than just the sport itself
friday night games, small town rivalry, tail-gaiting, being a somebody on the field when throughout the week you are a regular joe (talking about the high school level)
this arguement, which crops up all the time, basically turns into a bashfest of america cause we don't follow sports that are popular in euroland, which seems silly to me.
we have our culture differences, just because we don't follow rugby or soccer as rabidly as you folks does not lessen the skill of our own athletes

Fair enough...but it's not just Europe though...just striking that America doesn't care about global sports.

bro, i think the sterotype can fit the euro folks just as well
look at the arrogance displayed here, because we don't share the same sporting passions, ours are some how less quality and skilled.
show some respect for our athletes and i'll return the favor

Ok, Bino doesn't speak for all Americans (rugby player here).

I'd say a better title for the thread would be, "Americans don't care about a sport unless the sport is widely played in America." I think most countries react in a similar fashion to our sports.
