Christians - what is your opinion about homosexuality?

As we know, the bible says homosexuality is a sin. Do you believe its just a choice people make to sin? Kind of like being a liar or a murderer or adulterer? Do you believe someone can be born gay? What would you do if someone in your family (son, daughter, sister, brother, etc) were gay?

Just curious. There was a similar discussion on another board and I found it quite eye opening.

I had this conversation with a devout Christian at work this week.

He was kinda bent out of shape about the "gay friendly" media and felt there was no room for interpretation. The bible says being gay is living in sin.

I believe your "orientation" is a result of a combination of your genome and its interaction with the 100 billion neurons, and 100 trillion synapses in your brain.

Pretty sure pokey nailed it. My sister is geigh I think. She will burn if she doesn't turn. Hate that shit too she's good people other than loving poosie more than me.

^ he's a mo

What I don't get is peeps that have families and wait into they're in the 40's & 50's to decide they're a Mo

I'm Christian and I think homosexuality is fine.

That being said, I'm pretty sure it'd be damn hard for a Christian to reasonably argue that the Bible says homosexuality is wrong. So I don't get what you mean by "we all know the bible says homosexuality is a sin."

Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

Afeedz are you saying the bible doesnt say that a man laying with another man as he would a woman is a sin? I was told this by many Christians and they quoted bible verses. I could get those from the other board.
If the bible doesnt say this, then why do some christians get so adamant about it being a sin?

That's completely out of context. You realize that chapter is about idolatry, correct? Not romantic love between people of the same sex. That was a really good try though. At least you didn't quote Leviticus. :)

ok so...

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

I don't know much about the bible, but these were examples provided on the other board. Are certain parts of the bible true and some not true?

"And there were also perverted persons in the land. They did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel" (I Kings 14:24).

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God" (I Corinthians 6:9-10).

"Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due" (Romans 1:27).

I know the quote, and that's not what it really means. And even if it were, that's from Leviticus, Smurfy. The same book with all the other old testament laws that Christians did away with because of Jesus' sacrifice. Leviticus is the same book that requires God's people be kosher as well, but you see no Christians following that rule.

That's typical Christian-pick-and-choose-what-to-believe bullshit. Either Jesus and our did away with all Levitical law, or it did away with none. You can't claim both. Idiot Christians quote that. If they believed Levitical law still had to be followed, they wouldn't be eating bacon and they'd be stoning people for no reason.

butt apparently it's ok amongst some clergy if you're homo with little boys

also get a waiver if you're in teh fog

And for you and pokey quoting I Corinthians, those are bad translations. There's no such word meaning "homosexual" in the time the Bible was written. If I recall, a more correct translation for that word would be closer to prostitutes.

Pretty much. The only NT supposedly anti-gay verses can easily be explained away either bc they were taken out of context or mistranslated. Those two factors alone get rid of probably 90-something percent of "anti-gay" bible verses.

Lies!

Lol @ claiming to follow Christ and misinterpreting his divinely inspired words to fit your own agenda.

No. Unfortunately most Christians are ignorant as to what the Bible actually says.

Hmmmm odd, I have never once heard a single pastor, minister, pope, alter boy, choir member, or anyone every say that the bible says being a homo is ok. But i guess some of you are just much better at understanding god than ANY OF THEM.

But, yeah whatever, thanks for clearing up what no one devout christian has before...

Hey everyone, god says its cool to be a fag! So Pick3, your safe!

so when did christians first take an anti-mo status?

Just because none of your church leaders have said it, doesn't mean it's never been said. Plenty of scholars and Christians have said what I'm saying. Lol @ thinking I'm the first.

lolololololololol....Why would anyone even think that god said being gay is ok? Its not natural, he didnt make ADAM and STEVE...He made it only possible to reproduce between a man and a woman. I think Youre the one trying to SPIN context to fit what you want them to say, not the other way around.

So God wants only people who can reproduce in His kingdom?

Yeah, that would make total sense....if there weren't multiple Bible verses saying Eunochs are welcome in His Kingdom. But there are, so there goes that.

Don't worry about it. check your k message for noodz

No one said he only wants people that can reproduce, just stating why he made females and males to play different roles. Bottom line if you are cool with being gay thats all fine, personal choice, but No matter how you twist the verses and claim things are out of context, I see absolutely no way spinning it to claim being gay is fine as legit in Christianity. You havent proven it at all, you have just said "I dont think those verses mean that".

so you think one chooses to be a Mo?

if knot, why would God allow someone who is genetically oriented to a lifestyle to condemn themselves to eternal damnation?

Hell yeah its a choice...that born gay crap is BS. If someone is brought up around Mo'ness, or exposed to Mo things growing up, or isnt happy with their lives, or whatever, its all a damn choice.

I'm not gay.

And all you can say is what you think it means as well, in which case you reading those verses as anti-gay is only as legitimate as me reading them as neutral.

And me being pro-homosexuality is my opinion, the problems I stated with those quotes are facts. Christians can't quote Leviticus unless they also hold themselves responsible for it's other laws. The term "homosexual" didn't exist back then so the passage that was quoted as such is factually misinterpreted, and the I Corinthians verse, in context, is not about homosexuality, go read it yourself.

I've been too busy debating angels and demons and all that stuff lately to read up on something that would seem simple enough to know that being a Mo is not normal or accepted, but maybe this weekend if I get some free time I will look into this, although it seems way too far off base to even really matter. Being gay is not natural, bottom line...but to be fair I will see what info I can possibly dig up.

LOL @ reading the bible. What a waste of fucking time reading and debating such BS. It is like debating about a Dr. Seuss book and looking for inner meaning, lol.

I'm knot sold on the literal interpretation of the bible, butt I wished I knew more about it.

It's definitely a void in my education.

No. Unfortunately most Christians are ignorant as to what the Bible actually says.

Most theologians would disagree with you. They studied all day, there whole lives. Now your claiming to know what the Bible "actually says". What if you have changed the scriptures to say what your agenda is. I mean you can't deny the fact NT talks about same sex relationships not being ok. Now do I claim they will go to hell, I sure hope not. I wish nobody goes to hell, not a great place.
