What kind of Dog do you have?

Really? Because I've never owned a pit.

It is owners. And I'm not saying they don't have a natural tendency to be more aggressive than certain other dogs, but the right owner can tame that instinct with good training and proper energy release for the dog.

People don't understand that not every owner is suited for every dog. Same thing as if you dont want to brush your dog every day, or exercise it for a few good hours a day, you shouldn't get a golden retriever or if you want to go hiking you shouldn't get a bulldog.

Dogs aren't all the same, but someone well suited for a pit who knows how to properly take care of such a dog could easily teach a pit not to act on it's aggressive moods and to be much more relaxed with simple behavior modification from puppyhood. Unfortunately, most pit owners aren't willing to put in the necessary work to provide the pit with proper energy release and training.

Last week there was an instance of a pitbull killing a little boy's Shih-tzu

Any dog can bite. I don't think biting or bad behaviour is breed-specific at all.
I agree that it is not breed specific however there are breeds with a lower control of impulse therefore they need to be trained properly or they can become a risk, I trained my 4 dogs the same way, my great dane and my pugs are obedient but my french bulldog is a head case... you have to be breed specific... that's where I failed :(

Only problem I've ever had is when dumbasses let their dogs run free in the neighborhood. When walking my dogs on a leash and the little ankle biters run up to mine barking but its ok because they're only 8 lbs. And my dog is viscious because its a pitbull :jenscat
