I like the idea of being able to embed video file

jack sparrow

Think like Jack
Platinum
Because half of the time, I don't even click on the Youtube links...and when I do, as soon as I see the title is something I probably wont like, I close the tab.

^^Who else does this?

If we were able to embed video files in posts, we would at least get a preview of the first frame of the video, and not have to open another tab in order to view it.

Looks like my thread title got pwned by the mouse pad, but you get the idea. (I'm out of batteries for the bluetooth mouse).

yeah i feel ya, i've never clicked on one of Java's 3234234 youtube links but eh, I don't really click on ATW's kitteh/12yo girls pissing links either

when does this function come in play? now? I bet it'll just be for Plats

Not sure, but I hear it's on deck. Lemme try it...

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yO72seZKgu0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yO72seZKgu0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Many boards allow this now. Apparently the vBulletin hack is very easy. The vBcode tags would be [youtube] and [/youtube].

Apparently mods and admin are already able to imbed videos here.

[youtube]<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yO72seZKgu0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yO72seZKgu0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>[/youtube]

i'm suprised this youtube embezle thing hasn't come into play along time ago, there's alot of pretty slick functions on other forums that EF doesn't have, I think this place might need an upgrade

[youtube]fbM9EP2G0LM[/youtube]

^^^^^^^^^^ this is how to do it on other forums, you just copy n paste in the letters after the equal = sign in the youtube link

This spells certain doom for this thread lolllol.

Some boards do that, others you enter the whole URL for the video.

another feature that is pretty cool is the "Thanks Button"

basically everytime you start a thread, in your first post of that thread there will be a "thanks" button and if your thread is worthy of classic material, people can just click it to give you karma instead of having to go to your Karma button and pop up a new window evertime

kinda encourages people to make more quality threads I guess

Yeah, I've seen that. I think it's a great idea for the same reasons.

It would also single out the "i'm gay" and "fuck this" posts as duds unless they pertained to the subject matter.

yup ^^^^

it would be interesting if there was a "fuck off" button right next to the "thanx" button, I'm pretty sure this would also help reduce bandwidth spam

IMG tags are enabled for Platinum members. HTML is only enabled for COB's, mods and admins for the purpose of advertising. I don't see youtube or HTML being enabled for members, but I can see admin disabling HTML for mods (*cough* like me) who use it for encoding youtube and not advertisements.

There's a link somewhere here that shows you what's enabled in the V-Bul here and what's not, including how to use multi-quote functions and stuff. I don't recall where it is offhand, though.

Exactly. If the "I'm gay" and "fuck this" posts received either a "fuck you" or nothing at all in return, they would get discouraged and stop the nonsense.

would you agree though that it wouldn't hurt anything to be able to embed youtube vids for all members? I mean, if you don't wanna watch it, then just don't press play.

I have limited computer programming knowlege. I don't know what would be involved in enabling youtube links for members. To the best of my knowledge, it would involve enabling HTML, which will never happen. There's probably a way to do it without universally enabling HTML, but I have no idea how or what might be involved in such.

In the world of 1's and 0's, anything is possible. Not only possible, but probable and likely. Search your feelings Luke... Free electrons. Free PREDICTABLE electrons...

The possibilities are endless.

Okay, I may be kind of slightly intoxicated right now, but I have no idea what you're implying here.

Free electrons..the likes of which make a computer hum like the sounds of nature on Sunday morning. They are not controllable, but they are predictable.

Search your feelings Samoth...you know this to be true.

Digger probably already has a extra long reason why he doesn't allow this feature, hopefully he'll pop in to give the 411

Agreed.

Lets keep this near the top for a couple of days.

Bump for Digger.

BTW I made a post a while ago about embedding pics and also I mentioned this same topic with the videos and Digger said they were working on it, or thinking about it etc.

My bet is video will come here. The place needs to stay current with the latests trends yet they need to maintain control over the chaos.

Not necessary to enable html, there's a bbcode hack that will allow [youtube][/youtube] tags without requiring users to have full html access.

Why do you suppose they would oppose imbedded Youtube videos? It doesn't place a burden on the board's bandwidth.

We don't run vanilla vBulletin. Got a ton of value-add that has to be ported to the new version -- which is in the pipeline. When it's there we'll tell you how to make it work.

In the meantime please stop screwing around trying stuff that will NOT work. Thank you.

Apparently, it's [youtube_videoID][/youtube_videoID].

I have no idea how this stuff works. Can I make a tag that links to my site? Like, [samote's_site][/samote's_site] or something? This probably involves knowing how vBul works... I bet there're other tags that we don't know about, too.

:cow:

its the same basic concept as the auto-expander or even the expansion of smilie codes. vB takes a pre-determined character string and generates safe html code
