270 necked down to a 22.

Shoot mach 5 with any 22 bullet.

It's for military/tactical sniper matches....IE Bizzly, CFSAC, combat shooters challenge USMC...etc. Strictly distance shooting, although no benchrest allowed lol

Basically, I am entering these comps as a civie now (As i am finally OUT of the forces) and i have to keep my specs civie.

If your not in a bind for ammo you may want to look into the 7mmSTW or even the 7mm Weatherby Mag,might have a bit better wind bucking ability than the Rem mag.

I don't know for shit,but I thought those matchs were for service issued rifles.

They are.....except you can shoot them as a civilian if you wanted to with civilian equipment. I'm not shooting service rifles matches, I am shooting sniper matches. Most snipers do not use the issue sniper rifle that is issued to them....they use their own.

There are matches at Fort Drum all the time if you wanted to check one out

Not going to do good at longer ranges. Speed dosen't make any differenct when your bullet is so susceptible to wind.
