One thing I've noticed about many lifters, not just on EF, but others I meet offline as well, is a somewhat negative attitude that holds them back. For example, many of the prospective bodybuilders here look at Needsize's achievements and physique, and are in awe and say "Wow I could never do that." Or Clint (B Fold), and think they do not have the genetics or drive to do what he does, dispite the fact that they compete is strongman events. This occured to me last night when a member told me not to try to put myself on the same level as them. Place people, who are as human as you or I, on a pedistool, may in fact be creating a mental block that holds you back.

Would it not be more beneficial to look at what these guys have accomplished with their hours or blood, sweet and tears in the weightroom and say "If they can do it, then I can achieve the same thing, and perhaps be even more." Shouldn't we use these individuals as a source of postive inspriation and motivation? Having chatting with them here, we all know they are real people like you and I, and their achievements are not beyond your grasp. Perhaps we should look at them as our peers, learn from their mistakes and triumps, and listen to how they have gotten where they are, and attempt to do so faster by learning from their mistakes, which might have slowed them down along the way.

By that same tolken, I get accused of lying alot. The fact of the matter is, several EF members go to my gym, and know who I am. It would be rather silly of me to constantly lie about my numbers when any of them can call me out in the weight room, and then post about it here. That isn't going to happen though, because I've done my best to be fairly honest about it. For those of you who dislike my attitude, or think I'm a punk, I encourage you to use that in a postive manner to motivate yourself to achieve more. If a smart-ass punk such as BBF can squat 505 for reps and stiff leg 425 for reps, they I say any one of you can squat 550 for reps and stiff leg 450 for reps, if you put your mind to it. I say you should put your mind too it, realize that you are capable of far more than you have been achieving, and that the human body is capable of adapting far beyond what most of realize. I invite and encourage you to achieve more so that you can put me in my place and tell me to shut up. Next time you go in the weight room, don't look at a heavy weight you haven't handle before and think "that's heavy." Look at it calmly, and realize that its just a little more than you've worked with in the past, and dismiss it as insignifigant. Just lift it, and realize that you are capable of far more, and will achieve far more in the future. Your performance is a direct result of your mentality.

I definately have to agree. When I wake up and see my gains a month or so not measuring and have gotten 1/2 inch bigger, I look and am like wow. But than after like a week of seeing those gains you get old of them and are like man i'm f***ing small. When in reality you see your self everyday and can't really see much gains. BB are bodybuilders cause of they're efforts anyone can go and lift weights and get a little bigger. Its us bb that push it to our extremes to go where we can't. To get that bar up 3 more times even if it kills us. thats the bb in us to work past failure.

Great post brother! Cut's right. You should be on that mod list too. As should a number of the contributing members on this board.

Wow, I've gotten bigger since then. The back avatar I have up now was taken the same day as the other avatar.

looks like another bbf jerking himself thred who are thinking you are? that we will use you as some motavation in gym that is a joke none cares what you do you look so average but seem to place yourself with the stars. it is an insult to all us who bust are ass .

get a realty check

Could you please retype the last post in English. Its rather difficult to understand what you are saying. Thank you.

BTW, you have no karmic powers so your red karma hit doesn't count. Mine are worth about 10 points though.. so have some back for hijacking my thread.

This is exactly how I feel. It's why I enjoy the pics everyone posts. They are all very inspiring and often get me in the gym when I really don't feel like it.

funny thing is that most of us dont see themselves as others do. You mention how some might look at my physique and say Damn, I can never do that.. My response would be to aim a whole lot higher as when I look in the mirror I see no where near good enough. But at the same time, thats what keeps sending me back to the gym and putting myself through this crap. Right now I am just under 5'9", around 245lbs at 11% bf, and see scrawny every time I look in the mirror

good point about how you look at your own potential. Having the expectation that you WILL be one of the best at what you're doing is the absolute most effective way to actually make it come true.

good post bro, i often find myself comparing to others in the gym...i sometimes get discouraged. I have to step back and remember how far ive come, and how much further i will still go

Excellent post man, i've felt the same way for a long time. People always underestimate themselves, and need to start realizing their real potential. With the right mindset, what is heavy now, will be used for warm up in a couple years. I guess it can go the other way sorta too... with the wrong mindset, what is heavy now, will still be just as heavy in a couple years =p

nicely said I think if you think you can do more you will do more. Its half mental. Those who push themselves to extremes will get extreme strength and muscle gains.

This is such a great post, so many people accept failure by holding other humans so high that they feel they can never touch them. One day I was going to incline with a weight on the bar I wanted 2-3 reps with. A kid at the gym watching said to his buddy 'No way, LeRoi Glover (an NFL lineman) did that for 1 rep" Well, I did it for 3, and I don't make millions and I don't play in the NFL, and I don't know or care what LeRoi Glover inclines, the kid could be wrong and he may have me by 50lbs, I care what I incline, and I set no barriers for myself.........The examples go on and on, people being awestruck by pro wrestlers, pro athletes, local legends, etc........Respect is one thing, but you cannot hold people up on a pedestal, you'll only limit yourself mentally.

Great post BBF. I surprise myself in the gym a lot, I find it's far too easy to underestimate myself. The attitude is slowly turning around though.

Good post.

Its easy for all of us to underestimate ourselves. I'm glad to hear that you are starting to see that you can push yourself alot harder than you realized. Whenever I realize that, it seems like I always begin to make gains again.

Well put.

I've never held anyones physique in such high regard that I didnt think I could ever get there. I've always wanted, since I was 5 years old, to be built like Arnold. I'm not there yet but I am close enought that I know, as I always have, that I will not only get there but surpass my goals in the end

Great posts! I agree needsize. There was a time when I was in complete awe of Arnold, and it seemed almost unattainable to reach that size. Now it seems more then attainable, and I want more then 22" arms. Funny how things change. 22 isnt as big as it used to be compared to some of the 24-27 inch arms Ive been hearing about lately. I want to push my natural limits first though, and believe I can hit 20" arms naturally. Has yet to be seen. 2 more inches to go. More then anything I want a disgusting amount of strength to go with the size!

I dunno man, 24-27 seems like a pretty crazy arm measurement.

If you want a guideline, DC is over 300 lbs lean (though not contest) and has 21" arms, measured accurately, in his words "tight, true and straight up and down." If you see a picture of DC, his arms (and he) are enormous. Most of the pros and magazines add a fictious 3+" to arms.

those freaks with 27 inch arms are synthol side-shows like Greg Valentino. Trust me, that's not a look you want

I'm thinking that you're probably on to something, but at the same time, some of the other people just won't get there and will always be wishing to be as strong / heavy cut as the other guy because they aren't willing to make the changes that's required. I see these people all the time at my office.

Debaser, you're right about the exaggerations in arm measurement, Artrhur Jones proved this once before. Beast, at 18", you're a lot closer to a lot of pros than you think in terms of an arm measuremet.

Debaser, do you have a pic of DC you can post, everyone who mentions him says what a freak he is, but I've never seen him, just wanted to check him out........Does he compete?

speaking from experience I can say that 18" arms at 15%ish bf really don't look that big unfortunately, barely larger than the untrained joe average.

Now, if you have >8% bf then they'll look incredible, I think bodyfat is the biggest determiner in how good you look and how you feel about yourself... don't think ill be doing another bulker anytime soon.

I agree. Ive seen plenty of overweight people with 20" arms. Im not sure what my BF percentage is at. Havent measured it in a long time. Hopefully I look bigger then the average joe. haha Heres a pic of where Im at now. Ive been able to atleast maintain over the last 4 weeks Ive been out of the gym. No doubt that perspective effects gains though. Ive been real motivated to get back into it again lately. Hate being out of the gym! Heres a link for non-plats

This is a pic of my arm at 18"(they are 19" now) and around 6% bodyfat. Fairly impressive, but I have trained around guys with guns that make mine look stupid, so I have no doubtn that the pros are 22" +

Nice!! I know what you mean. Ive seen some of these guys and they make me feel fuckin small!! haha

I had the oportunity to train with a guy this summer who has a legit 23" arms, and standing next to him in a tanktop looking at the mirror in the gym, I couldn't help but think mine looked like toothpicks.

An extremely humbling experience Ive had more then Id like! haha
My uncle had 23 inch arms at 280lbs and 12% and made me feel like a little kid. Atleast when I hit 20" Ill be a somewhat respectable size! haha

awesome bi shot NS! Personally I wouldn't want to get any bigger than that with that kind of bf, but imo the stan mcquary 'natural' (lol) look is perfect... that guy has awesome arms and they can't be much bigger than 18" if that

The origin of this post reminds me of an old childrens story about
" the lil engine that could " and something Arnold wrote many years ago saying the mind will ALWAYS quit before the body. So the original post by BBF, the childrens story and Arnolds lil piece all share a very basic and common thread........
Its all in the mind......its all mental....where the mind goes the body will follow............. word up brothers.

good post BBF :)

great post guys.

thanks for the inspirations.

needsize man your triceps look photoshopped, holy crap! and the forearm, or what i can see of it is pumpin!

i think the only thing i've got better right now is a tan hah hah :fro:
