One thing I've noticed about many lifters, not just on EF, but others I meet offline as well, is a somewhat negative attitude that holds them back. For example, many of the prospective bodybuilders here look at Needsize's achievements and physique, and are in awe and say "Wow I could never do that." Or Clint (B Fold), and think they do not have the genetics or drive to do what he does, dispite the fact that they compete is strongman events. This occured to me last night when a member told me not to try to put myself on the same level as them. Place people, who are as human as you or I, on a pedistool, may in fact be creating a mental block that holds you back.
Would it not be more beneficial to look at what these guys have accomplished with their hours or blood, sweet and tears in the weightroom and say "If they can do it, then I can achieve the same thing, and perhaps be even more." Shouldn't we use these individuals as a source of postive inspriation and motivation? Having chatting with them here, we all know they are real people like you and I, and their achievements are not beyond your grasp. Perhaps we should look at them as our peers, learn from their mistakes and triumps, and listen to how they have gotten where they are, and attempt to do so faster by learning from their mistakes, which might have slowed them down along the way.
By that same tolken, I get accused of lying alot. The fact of the matter is, several EF members go to my gym, and know who I am. It would be rather silly of me to constantly lie about my numbers when any of them can call me out in the weight room, and then post about it here. That isn't going to happen though, because I've done my best to be fairly honest about it. For those of you who dislike my attitude, or think I'm a punk, I encourage you to use that in a postive manner to motivate yourself to achieve more. If a smart-ass punk such as BBF can squat 505 for reps and stiff leg 425 for reps, they I say any one of you can squat 550 for reps and stiff leg 450 for reps, if you put your mind to it. I say you should put your mind too it, realize that you are capable of far more than you have been achieving, and that the human body is capable of adapting far beyond what most of realize. I invite and encourage you to achieve more so that you can put me in my place and tell me to shut up. Next time you go in the weight room, don't look at a heavy weight you haven't handle before and think "that's heavy." Look at it calmly, and realize that its just a little more than you've worked with in the past, and dismiss it as insignifigant. Just lift it, and realize that you are capable of far more, and will achieve far more in the future. Your performance is a direct result of your mentality.
