I never said you can or should eat any old crap you want and you'll look ripped. That's also not what george was saying. I thought his post was (correctly) addressing the absurd culture that has grown up around 'special' diets and macronutrient madness.
"But you don't really need another book to tell you to eat wholesome foods, do you?"
Nuff said. There's no indication of pizza, ice cream, sodas and french fries in that message. There's no mention that you can stuff your face to the point of being sick 24/7 while sitting in front of the TV and still look like your identical twin who eats right, trains hard and gets plenty of rest. However, work in identical twins does show that how you look and how fit/lean/muscular you are is ~80 genetically determined. So that only leaves ~20% up to the diet, training, rest etc.....For bodybuilders, that 20% is crucial. It makes the difference between a greyhound that wins it race and one that never even makes it to the starting blocks.
Everyone is looking for a diet that will allow them to eat all the foods they love, avoid foods they hate and always feel full and full of energy while looking lean and muscular. It's a pipe dream and once you accept that, you won't need to waste so much mental energy on boards like this obsessing about every little gram of carbs you put in your body. You'll accept the body you were born with, put clean fuels in it to keep it running optimally for as long as possible with as little maintenance as possible and just be happy. No matter what you eat, getting competition ripped is incredibly hard work requiring enormous disipline and self control. That's a separate issue from general good physical fitness since it requires you to actively eat submaintenance calories for an extended period of time in a world full of yummy excess calories. Preparation for BB competitions has little to do with macronutrient ratios as long as protein intake is adequate and calories are submaintenance. It's easier to stick to submaintenance calories if the food you eat isn't too yummy (french fries, pizza etc...). It's not rocket science.................................
