Yoga

Khundulini & Hatha... Very good at helping me center and keeping my flexibility. :)

Well I've been reading the basics today ( breathing) from this site: -

Yoga Homepage

How the hell are you meant to breath through your nose all the time??

Also, it says on this site that experts in yoga can go without breathing for over an hour...surely that cant be true!?

Does anyone here practice yoga?...How does it help you?

I'm taking hatha as a class this year, and it is one of the only things that keeps me going. I only do it on Monday mornings, but there is no better way to start out the week. I actually don't really believe in the whole "life energy flowing chi" kinda stuff, but taking two hours out of your day with no phones, noise, where you can just concentrate on you is what I think everyone needs.

I actually stopped biting my fingernails because I've been so relaxed. I have gained a lot of flexibility, which brought somewhat of a new element to my workouts. I can also put my legs behind my head, which is an invaluable skill for entertaining at parties.

yeah... because after 15 min they are dead.. and that makes it a lot easier to hold it for the rest of the hour.

if you don't breathe through your nose you won't achieve relaxation... and even though i was doing ashtanga (which i'll likely go back to) and it was strenuous, the fact that i could maintain the breathing through my nose kept me relaxed. if you stop breathing through your nose you should stop until you can continue.

incidentally i read in yoga magazine about a yogi who went through a major surgery w/o anesthetic by utilising yoga techniques.

there is a scientific basis to this arguement

one of my buddies who does five ancestor style tai chi was explaining it to me, there is a bundle of nerves or something that only get innervated if through the nose and affects heart rate or something, so it is essential

not sure if he was correct. i think i was starting at someones boovies at the time or something so i wasnt paying much attention :D
