I;m guessing the down time today was caused by the asshole misrepresenting themselves as explained in the new sticky? Is this going to effect us in anyway or just some type of phishing thing to try and scam us?

If you're a Slashdot reader, check out the recent Wikileaks case. Similar situation; find a judge in your price range, lie a little, and so screw up someone else's day.

I don't have details (and don't really want them -- but I think some sorry SOB is going to owe George his firstborn child by the time our lawyers get done with him).

I'm confused...do we need to actually do that if we aren't having any issues with EF?

So lost.

Yeah but i dont know the exact technical words but when and if they switch the way elitefitness.com links to the server IP it will go to the other site or something?

i just checked out slashdot i read it sometimes but not often. can you give us the nerd version of how and why this works?

it takes time for the fraudulent change to propagate truout all the name servers across the net, so it may not affect you for hours or till tommorrow

remember everyone, the fallback is to use the direct IP addy in the address bar of the browser http://69.90.197.215

me too

are we of if ef is working?

the change spreads across all the name servers on the net like a virus, little by little. the name servers translate the domain name (elite) into a physical address (http://69.90.197.215) .

once the change gets to your name server, you'll be pointed somewhere else unless you change the host file or use the direct ip address ^^

here's the full instructions -> ( http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/s...u-want-continue-able-access-elite-585839.html )

good job at staying on top of this one digger!

Not sure yet. Earlier it just didn't load the page at all and that is the same thing that happens with wikileak which i guess was the first site that had this happen to them.

I would whip up a script for those non computer oriented people but i havent done any programming for a long time and cant remember shit. Can you whip up a batch script or something ?

Yeah happened to me earlier, I thought my network admin had revoked access to the site. Tried 30 min later and it worked, so I dunno. Some DNS's servers can take upto 48 hours to propagate, but seems to be working for me now.

This isn't like a hijacking where they send you somewhere else -- they tried to get the registrar to stop giving out our address at all, and make it look as though the domain doesn't exist.

god damn that would be some ownage!!!

you think it could be some disgruntled ex members?

Those damn Carebears again!!! Maybe it was Seeker using his SSH tunnel skills from 1998.

Yup, as soon as we "WTF?!ed" the registrar they put us back.

Just to clarify for folks who are worried about their computers -- this was not a "computer hack." Think John Gresham, not Tom Clancy.

Or even closer -- Tony Soprano, saying "Nice registry system you got here; be a real pity if something should like, happen to it, you know?"

It was straightened out in a half hour or less, but it wouldn't hurt to hang on to that IP address.
