I wonder if that will fix the current problem though......

So strange....I ran AdAware.....and spybot.....it found all sorts of shit...and I can now go to Google, and Yahoo.......but for whatever reason E-Bay still brings up the crappy Search Assistant....??????????????????????

I HATE COMPUTERS :chomp:
anyone else use your comp. cause i remember installing that ebay search function. you have to agree to install it though. its not spyware or a virus. think you can uninstall it in control panel/add remove programs if i remember.

That MicrosoftAntispyware beta1 or whatever it is called is free and it an excellent program. http://www.microsoft.com/

Tons of spyware remover programs. I like spy sweeper also but I am willing to bet you have some viruses thats this program will not get rid of. If they do get rid of them they virus will just install them back on your computer.

Download CWShredder, unzip it, start the program hit the fix button.

IN control Panel - add/ remove programs
uninstall:

SyncroAD
Web_Rebates
NavExcel
and whatever else you dont think should be there

Reboot

With all other windows closed have HijackThis del alot of items that do not belong. I will have to find a list if you are not familar with what to del.

After that reboot.

Make sure you can see all files. In Control Panel - Folder Options - View check ""Show all files and folders" and uncheck "hice protected operating system files"

Search for and delete these files:
msvxd.exe
msvxd16.dll
msvxd32.dll

Hell there are lots more but those are most common.

Delete these folders:

C:\program files\web_rebates
c:\program files\windows syncroad
c:\program files\navexcel search toolbar

Delete the content of these folders:
C:\document and settings\paul\local

Also Update your norton or whatever virus protection you use and run a full scan. I use norton and when its done it shut it all the way down and run AVG.

try format c:

it should remove a lot of crap

Hey wait, don't do it !

I've tried the Microsoft antispyware which removed a couple of shits that ad aware was unable to eradicate

WTF - I think that happened to me a couple months ago. How did you find out about it?

I learned that the hard way, 3 computers would not get IP addresses immediately after running ad-aware and deleting everything it had listed....so i said hey let me try a static address at my job, it worked fine...i tried re-installing TCP/ip, the NIC card, renewing-releasing the IP address, nothing would fix the problem except a re-install/repair of windows XP.

chewy here is a link to some people who had similiar problems, they were able to fix it because they didnt delete the quarantined files from ad-aware, but I usually delete them right away so that wasnt an option for me.
