Yeah I'm bragging but I'm proud....

I was named to the National Honor Society today and will be initiated on Oct 18th. Those who remember me posting about the "Activity points". I guess they considered what I did enough. Its good to know I didn't have to be a social butterfly to get in.

Congratulations Rex. Now go out, tell everyone, and make them jealous.

Its nice to hear that some people still have their priorities in order.

Ryan.:p

national honor society is pointless. no kids WANT to do those activities, they just do them for their college application. same goes for student council. high schools a joke. but congratulations none the less.

SAT scores are what seperates the smart people from the people who have hamburgers for brains. GPA and EC's are BS IMO.

any retard can get into the honors society. i qualified for grades but i wasnt gonna do any gay shit they wanted and i dont need to be a dork and think im special cause of some gay society.

Great job! Keep excelling in life. You will always hear from naysayers and you must ignore them. People on this board like moneybags are nothing compared to the negative people you'll meet along the way to success.

your sat score is gonna be much more important than some gay society. they choose kids based on gpa so if you have a gpa that can get into it then theres no need to join it.

Thanks for the congrats.

The activity points I got were from playing ice hockey and having 2 regular seasons, and 2 spring seasons as captain. I would've played it either way, so it just benefitted me academicly as well. I don't think they should even demand activities to be done. Its got nothing to do w/ how you do academicly, and not everyone has time to do the shit they tried to make me do. Getting in made no difference to me what-so-ever, but I did nothing different and got in so its fine by me.

SAT's. I took them last May and got a 1090. I'm not sure what thats considered, but compared to the other people who asked me what I got, I did good. I don't understand how a school can say yes or no to an application based on a test at one moment, of one day of your life.

Ranked 29th in my class.

I'm enlisting in the Marines after I graduate, and want to go into masonry or accounting when I get out.

I got a 1230 on the SAT and am ranked in the 40th percentile.

you got 1090 on your sats and you are 29th in your class? where do you live? harlem?

As for SATs, the average at Harvard is 1320, so the person that said that they were in the 40th percentile at 1230 is either at MENSA high school or is mistaken.

He meant that he got a 1230 on the sat's and was in the 40th percentile of his high school class by the standards of his gpa.

you got 1090 on your sats and you are 29th in your class? where do you live? harlem?

Either that or a small farm town with 30 kids in his grade.

I got a 1230 on the SAT and am ranked in the 40th percentile.

That a boy, way to be an underachiever. I got a 1220 and was ranked in the 90th percentile ;) There's nothing you can learn in high school that can't be learned for a buck 50 in late fees at the public library.

i'm in national honors society and am a social butterfly. i am a delegate for national honors society.

i have a 3.56 cumlative gpa and ranked in the 26th percentile.

i recieved a 1130 on my sat's when i took them 2 years ago but haven't retaken them yet.

i am taking AP chemistry, Honors Precal, Honors Physics, AP Biology, and Molecular biology this year as my "hard" classes. i love my school.

we also have to be in acivities to get in national honors society, but also must have 3 letters of recomendation and all the teachers you have had vote on wether you should be accepted or not.

rex??? can i get some bobble heads still?

pm me with your addy and how much you want for them.

Flickenu is right. My class rank is just inside the 40th. My gpa is only 3.4 though and it went down because I failed 2 big tests this week.

im sure your the most popular girl in your chess club.

I should have gotten higher than a 1230. I didnt even get to see the last math section. There was this hot girl in front of me, and during section 6 i pulled out mr happy and started beating him down. I made so much noise and caused such a mess, the proctor kicked me out of he class. I would have gotten atleast a 1240.

Shit!!! you took the words right out of my mouth!
I almost beat that with my math score!
Don't you get like 400 just for filling out your name correctly?

2Thick: yes 1320 might be the average, but the average CEO/children there is .78
There are schools with much higher averages. My high school's average was over 1270.

i call bullshit. no way in hell was your high school's average over 1270. do you realize the average on that test is 800? 1090 is NOT a bad score. it's above average but there's no way that person should be 29th in their class. Like i said, i dont believe your hs average was over 1270.

...and there's no way that you almost beat that with your math score. at best you can get an 800 on math.

I'm from Philly. There are over 400 people in my senior class and my GPA is 3.7.

I was sick the day I took the SATs, not that its an excuse for my score; plus I just don't care for them.I'm enlisting into the Marines and don't need them to do what I want.

I second that BULLSHIT. There's no way your high school's
average SAT score is 1270... Bullshiaaat. You may think you're
right, but you're not.

SAT tests intelligence. GPA can have to do with easy teachers and easy classes. I am in all honors and GT. If I were in standards then I would have a 4.0. I also work 30hrs a week which hurts my GPA.

I think burnboy got like a 630 on his SAT's. That was for the verbal and the math combined.

1. I did get an 800 on my math, and although it ain't 1090, I'm thinking that's pretty close. (720 english)

2. I attended one of the top 3 private schools in the US from 7-12th grade; roughly 50% of graduating seniors from my class went to Ivy league or equivalent (Stanford, MIT, etc..), I might be wrong on the 70 part, (it was like 15 years ago), but of the 1200+ I am certain, that was for my class (145 graduating seniors).

By the way, I am not saying that the SAT isn't a totally biased test because it certainly is, and yes, we were heavily prepared for these and all standardized tests from grade 7 on. You don't even want to know some of the stories, they would just piss you off, but one of my buddies who went to law school took the MCAT's (AFTER law school) without studying (he was trying to prove a point) and scored in the 75%ile. The tests have a great deal to do with pattern recognition.

By the by, I was and am congratulating Rex, his achievement is significant because it is relevant only to where he went to school (e.g. correcting for local biases). I'm guessing that his parents didn't spend $50,000 sending him to private school and he'll probably get into med school anyway.

You know what they call the guy who graduated dead last in his class from med school?

well if i would have known you went to andover academy for christs sakes...just joking but i assumed you just meant a normal public high school. and yes i do want to hear some of those sat prep stories...

You were close on Andover. They were #1 parochial (I think that's what they called the live-away from home schools). I went to H.M., we were #1 according to CBS news back when I went there.

I refused to join the Honor Society because it is nothing but a stupid activity people try to put on their college apps to make them look better. Colleges probably know this.

I was ranked 9th in my class in HS out of about 370 kids. I had a 1260 on my SATs without prepping at all, so that isn't too bad. The valedictorian got a 1440, which I believe was our highest score. So, as you can see, there were alot of dumb kids in my school, but there were alot of smart kids. On the whole, I'd say less than half took their SATs. Also, a 1090 is a pretty good score, you could get into most decent colleges with that.

i love being part of our honorrs society. we have a fee though- two dollars a year. but we do so much: tutoring, charity work, "thinking thursday" freshman day of recolection, buddy groups. we really changed it this year so everyone at our school knows who we are.

congrats. I passed up honor society as almost eveyr smart kid in my class did, we didn't want to do that volunteer slavery BS. Funny how all the kids with the high SAT scores and natural intelligence are usually the slackers.

80 people out of 260 kids in my class are in national honors society. see, i go to a catholic private school we take pride in helping others. we all have fun in honors society. we do so much that everyone in it is one of my good friends. i love helping others and being able to do that with my friends is even better.

They tried pulling that bullshit w/ me. They asked what I did. Hockey for 3 reg seasons, 2 spring seasons, and 3 terms as captain. They said they weren't sure if it was enough and asked if I was interested in doing any volunteer work. My answer was a strong no. I work and was not losing hours to do some menial slave labor for no pay when I have to buy my own stuff. I guess what I did was enough. If not, then it wouldn't have bothered me any.
