I just finished a CME (continuing medical education) on the topic of OCP's/progestins. It was sponsored by Ortho (one of the competetors to Yasmin).
They tried to bash Yasmin on a bunch of different fronts but all their studies and comments were bogus (that's what reading and publishing research for 10 years will do for you).
Bottom line was that over the long haul (1+ years) weight gain tends to be neutral/slight, like all OCP's and the initial loss/neutrality probably has to do with the diuretic effect of the progesterone component, which is equivalent to spironolactone, 25mg. It is also an anti-androgen and as such will help control unwanted hair growth from conditions with excess androgens, (like PCOD), so it is my preferred pill for PCOD patients.
Like all pills and hormones, side effects will vary and there is NO WAY TO PREDICT if you will have uncomfortable SE's. I would definitely recomment you try it.
