How is your Y, in regards to equipment, comapred to a regular gym.

The reason I ask is because our Y is a piece of sht. The LIMITED equipment is either old or broken. There is no air conditioning, The gym is very dirty with very little ventilation.

Thank god for community support, or it would have gone uder long ago.

The nicest Y I have worked out in was in Pittsford NY - used to run the 3 miles there, do my workouts, and then run home. Or bike instead. Very nice facilities.

Then when I lived in Cambridge, the Y there was scary bad and they charged as much as the nice gyms. The free weight area had a ceiling so low that if you wanted to do any overhead lifts, you had damn well better be at least sitting if not kneeling.

Roanoke VA has a decent Y that I have been to, and the locker room has an old boys golf club feel about it. Not sure on the pricing there since I never paid for it.

I've heard that in Alabama near the NASA site, there is a really nice Y, but I myself have never used it.

Here in Central Florida, we have probably 25 Y's within 30 Min I can choose from. Each one has its benefits such as some have
raquetball courts, some have indoor pools or BBall courts etc.

The 2 Y's I hit most often have the largest free weight areas
and are only 3-4 years old. Very very nice
One is a 27,000 square foot facility free weights, treadmills, stairmasters, precors, stationary bicycles, an aerobic center, full gymnasium, locker rooms, outdoor swimming pool, Tropical Smoothie food café, family recreation center with game room and meeting rooms..

The free weight area has tons of stuff including a great Back Station, probably 10 loose adjustable benches, 5 stationary bar bell benches, Power rack and Smith Machine, DB's from the colored ones up to +100lb with many double sets on the 30-65lb range. Probably 7 bars and tons of Ivanko Olym plates.
They have a big section with mirrors for all this stuff that is probably 30 x 50 Ft or so with room to grow.

My individual dues are I think $27 or $32 a month and I can cancel
at any time the autodraft.

Also they all have some OK Cybex circuit machines I use for some things like a great Tricept press down preacher style machine or the Seated Ab machine.

Locker rooms are kept up nice. Some even have towel service.
Classes all the time such as spinning, Yoga, cardio, stretching

Of course, the one down side to some people with Y's is that your dues pay for lots of stuff you will never use such as health seminars and kids programs etc.
