WWF Backlash

Okay, I've only been into wrestling for the past 2 or 3 years, so I've never been to a live event. Since the April PPV is in my town, I'm going. Spent $90 to get my redneck on.

What'll be weird is seeing the matches without hearing the commentary from King and JR.

Those of you that have been to a live event: do you think they're worth the price of admission?

depends.... it varies greatly from show to show. I went to starcade 96 in Nashville, TN and it was incredible. Went to a lot of raws and they all sucked. PPV are generally better because no commercial break filler.

but you should go, why the hell not. what else are you gonna spend your money on. have a few beers and mingle with the trash of all colors.

Oh, I'm definitely going, no question. I figure if it sucks, I'll know not to go again.

In looking at the matches, I think it'll be pretty good. I'm jazzed about seeing Eddie and RVD. Plus, I'll get to see how monstrous Brock Lesnar looks in person.

The Rock's not gonna be there, though, which disappoints me. I'm not nearly as excited about HHH vs. HHH as I would be about seeing the Rock. Oh well.

HHH vs HHH, now way!!! they've cloned triple H!?!??! Vince is a genius.

When I went to a WCW event I really didn't pay that much attention to the matches, I was busy getting drunk and talking with people and people watching. We ended up going backstage and seeing wrestlers... goldberg, beoit, jericho, booker t, ddp. it was cool, kinda like a mentos commercial.

I was beeing a bit of a goof-ass here. Thought I'd see if anyone else noticed that it's Hunter Hearst Helmsley against Hollywood Hulk Hogan. So, HHH vs. HHH. Interesting, huh?

How'd you get backstage?

And there will definitely be beer involved on Sunday.

we worked at the university the WCW show was being held in. We were network engineers, so we had our tool belts and what not with our badges so we looked like we knew what we were doing. nobody said shit.

that was one of the tools bro, and the toner, and the hand set thing that looked like a phone, we had all that shit.

no rock and no jericho on the card... very odd... i know Rock is busy promoing for his movie... but why no jericho? ithink it's the powers at be keeping down the smaller man

I think you should have good time if your close enough. I remeber having a blast the last time I went with my cousin to Wrestle Mania in 1999 it was thight!

When I was a little kid, I went to the WWF every time they came to town (Des Moines), even though they were just "house shows". Back in the day, that's what everything was, there was no Monday night TV.
We did a couple Sat. night main events though.... if anyone remembers the Zeus/Hogan confrontation (steel cage), I was there. Aww yeah. I used to make Hogan, Macho Man, and Jake the Snake signs and shit. Man, life was easy and easily entertaining when you were a kid.

I've been to two Raw's in Ames, and they're never coming back because we didn't sell out the last one (Iowa sucks, plus there was something going on that night, can't remember what). It does kinda suck not having the announcing, and just sitting there during the commercial breaks. It also sucks not being able to hear the backstage segments (at least we couldn't). I think it's easier for the hardcore fan to appreciate it, the casual fan could very well not like it. But only one way to find out. They're doing a house show in DSM the night before Backlash. It was tempting mainly because you'd probably see some hints of how the PPV will go down, but house shows aren't crap to me.

...Oh, and about Jericho not having a match. Rumor is they were leaving him open in case Benoit would be ready for Backlash. Since he's not, no match for CJ.

The real question here is: How busy will Hooters be this Sunday? First PPV since the split, and we don't get Smackdown in Central Iowa. But on the other hand, Hogan's going for the title... hmm.

it'll probably be busy, so go early. 5 or 6pm and get your drink or eat on.

I'll watch it, my.... uh..... friend has all the PPV channels.

Would *you* mind picking up the YooHoos and Oreos this time? I get tired of you mooching off me.

Well, just got back from the show. It was interesting. Don't know if it was $90 interesting, but it was fun.

First thing I noticed is that everything looks bigger on TV. The WWF definitely has their production down.

Good crowd, seemed to be into everything for the most part. They kicked off the show with a handicap match between Steven Richards/Justin Credible and the Big Show. Lasted for maybe 5 minutes, not bad.

The "Rico's gay" chants were pretty funny.

Didn't understand the beginning, where Vince and Stacey showed up, and then they never said anything else about either of 'em.

Did they give a better explanation of why they stopped the Lesnar/Hardy match? It was a pretty abrupt end.

Some dipshit threw a bottle into the ring when Austin got his beers. He left right after that happened.

Title match was good. After the match, HHH came back out, and he and Hogan both posed for the crowd, and HHH did Hogan's schtick and vice versa.

How was the show on TV?
