Wrist pain...

My wrists have been killing me lately. I'm used to them being sore after a workout for a couple days, but lately it doesn't seem to go away. I usually slack off a little on the training in the summer, but I am planning on starting a cycle soon, so that's out. I recently switched from curl bar curls and rows to straight bar. It does put a little stress on my wrists, but I only switched 2 months ago or so. Think this is whats causing it?

What do you guys do for sore joints besides taking a break?

I remember in highschool when I couldn't pick a curl bar up because the pain was so bad. My coach told me I had some condition--which I can't remember the name now--, but it would go away with time. Sure enough it did. In your case, if it has been hurting for a while, I would start treating it. If possible, ice them down after each lifting session. Also, use some Bengay, myoflex, or equilvalent. If it keeps up for a couple weeks after that, go see a doc.

Wrap the shit outta your wrists. Strait bars do add a lot of pressure because your wrists have to bend unnaturally, especially with heavy weights. i've had to have surgery on both wrists and they still hurt. Try doing wrist exercises, grip work and forearm flexor strengtheing - i swear by it and it's helped quite a bit.

My gloves have wraps and I always wrap them tight when needed.

As far as wrist excercises go, I avoid them as they also work the forearms, and my tendonitis is barely allowing me to train as it is. I fucked them up by doing heavy hammer curls at every arm workout for a good year or so a while back. I need a couple more A.R.T. sessions I think.

Thanks for the replys bros!

My doctor in the States told me to take Magnesium supplements to ease muscle/joint pain. I was skeptical but it's cheap so I tried it. I was shocked at how much better I felt all over. We all have heard of glucosamine & chondroitin (expensive) but this $4 per 100 supplement made a real difference.

"Ease muscle cramps, aches and pains. It has been shown that for proper muscle contraction and relaxation, magnesium and calcium need to be present in balanced amounts. A supplement containing these minerals, taken regularly, may lessen the pain from sports injuries or excessive physical activity Supplements with a ratio of two parts calcium to one part magnesium are recommended for otherwise healthy individuals treating muscle cramps and aches. Increasing magnesium levels can even improve a workout: A study of women over age 50 found that when magnesium levels were low, the participants had higher heart rates and needed more oxygen during their workouts."
